Just looking at making a redemption for 2 people for MEL-SIN-CMB in business class, cost = 246,500 points plus AUD$1720!

That is insane! $860 per person. Especially when a cash economy fare can be bought for approx $750 return.

Seems they have been taking lessons from Qantas and then adding their own 'enhancement'

I had a random look at the cash price and it would be a bit over $12,600 for two so you are saving about 4 cents a Kris Mile off that list price. There are lots of discounted economy air fares so I am not surprised that Singapore Airlines are keeping the redemption cash costs high to make a bit of a profit.
Considering you can go SIN-LHR in Suites for 91,375 Kris Miles I am not sure that CMB is a bargain destination for Kris Miles.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

SYD-SIN-BKK are ~$550 or more now. Economy airfare not much more.

It hurts less when you start into the Krug, Dom Perignon ,the icy Vodka with the caviar and then the fine red with dinner.

SQ is very famous for high YQ.

Maybe should consider credit points to VA and use these to redeem SQ flights.

I find redemption's on VA harder..
I can find business redemption's for 4 to LON business on krisflyer...
Not one day can I find it for VA ..it's like VA don't allow 4 reward redemptions in one go or something

You'd be hard pressed finding 4 award redemptions in business on same flight on most airlines. You could get lucky but it's the exception not the rule. Some airlines release 2 awards now and maybe another 2 later.

The "free" signon bonuses are making it harder by the day.

I agree. Most airlines appear to release 1-2 business awards seats and then later if sales are slow release more. Sometimes I've heard of 3-4 award business seats on A380 or similar flights with lots of J seats from the start but not in popular days or dates.

Economy usually better away from Mid Dec - mid Jan. Obviously higher status helps with some airlines.

Ahhh, so that's how it works
Very new to this booking game, thanks for the info
So I could book 2 confirmed now, then put 2 on waitlist? and if It doesn't pop up, cancel and just pay the fee.
cheers

Whilst SQ does have 4 J awards on flights (I just booked 4 * MEL-SIN-HND J Savers near Xmas this year), However given SQ release seats for their own members at 356 days out. VA can only book 330 days out. by the time VA members can book, some of the seats would have already been booked by SQ members anyway.

You can get 4 J Savers in SQ, even in peak season, just need to book as soon as they are available (356 days out) ...... I have recently booked 4 * J SQ MEL-SIN-HND Saver tickets for departure near Xmas this year. MEL-SIN is on A380, SIN-HND on A350 XWB.

You also win some and lose some using SQ's zone system. MEL-SIN-MNL is 5218 miles and 93500 points whilst, MEL-SIN-CMB is 5453 miles and is 123250 points.

Whilst the surcharges might seem criminal, I prefer to look at the big picture.

Flying suites for points that cost anywhere from zero to almost zero plus lets just say $2000 is far better than paying $25,000 in cash (see#3)

Have suite prices come down alot?
I did a lot of reading and see $20,000 ticket prices.
It's 'only' 13,5k return Syd-Lon on suites....
