I'm looking at a multicity itinerary that is primarily SQ but will have 2 legs that are MI. I can book just the multicity SQ component online and it books into W booking class (Economy Flexi Saver) for ~$1,500pp. I could separately book the MI legs online into W booking class (Economy Flexi Saver) for ~$280pp.

However, if I try to book the lot online it only quotes me Y (Full Fare Economy) for the entire journey at close to $5k per person.

One of the legs would ideally be PVG-xSIN-USM with PVG-SIN on SQ and SIN-USM on MI (which is a legitimate connection). All individual legs can be booked into W but not the journey in total.

Would a travel agent or SQ rep be able to make this itinerary work in W or am I destined to have to book the MI legs separately and just hope that we don't miss the crucial connection (or alternatively build in an unwanted stopover in SIN to accommodate)?

Are you using the multi city booking engine or just wanting to do it as a simple return without stopover (by typing in PVG as origin and USM as desitnation)? I tried the later, and you are right the flexi was ridiculous amount (by contrast the business class fare was only about $2200 AUD return, if you are looking at paying $1800 in separated economy bookings .... well I'd seriously think about business .... ).

The full itinerary is BNE-xSIN-PEK // PVG-xSIN-USM-SIN-BNE.

I can book it as two itinenaries (both booking into what appears to be the same fare class), BNE-xSIN-PEK // PVG-SIN-BNE and SIN-USM-SIN and it's $1,800 in total. The PVG-SIN flight connects to the SIN-USM flight but obviously if I book as two separate itineraries I'm at the mercy of forfeiting the SIN-USM-SIN fare if we miss the connection. It's a 2hr 10min connection.

One option is that we instead do BNE-xSIN-PEK // PVG-SIN-USM-xSIN-BNE, again booked as BNE-xSIN-PEK // PVG-SIN-BNE and SIN-USM-SIN because the "connection" to the final Brisbane leg is about eight hours. But it makes for a tough day at the end of the holiday with the two little Gremlins in tow.
