I am trying to redeem 1 x J class award seat between DXB and PER departing 22 Dec 13 (arriving 23 Dec 13). SQ has SQ495 (DXB to SIN) and SQ223 (SIN to PER) that would be suitable. When you go through the online KrisFlyer redemption system it is saying there is a waitlist for a J saver award (J standard award is available). However, if you try to redeem through UA it appears that a saver award seat can be booked. Expert Flyer is also claiming that there is availability.

Can anyone explain why KrisFlyer isn't showing availability for this flight. If I book a waitlist do you think I would have a good chance of it being confirmed?

Waitists are a strange beast. I just made this graphic to contribute to the body of knowledge of the SQ algorithms. I hope it helps. (Any similarity or likeness to Mr & Mrs Cove is purely co-incidental.)

Maybe there are commitments within the *A agreement that certain number of seats needs to go to *A awards and others can go to KF inventory. It is a dark science.

Have you looked at the sectors as separate redemptions? ie on KF awards is it possible to see availability for DXB - SIN? Then doing another search possible to see Saver availability on SIN-PER? If Yes, then call the Call Centre and explain the situation. The should add it up for you into a single booking.

OT: We used to have one of these spinners next to the radio section base radio that aircraft would call for radio checks. When a radio check was requested, just spin the wheel and give the reports. Really kept the radio techs scratching their heads as they looked for what was causing that random 1 poor to 5 loud and clear responses. Hypothetically of course.
