Hi All,

Asking another "what would you do" question….especially for those of you who have tried out SQ's new business seat.

Traveling SIN-MEL in a couple of months time on SQ in J, circa 2330hrs late night departure on SQ 237, which is a 773 i believe (2-2-2 layout).

I have just found out that SQ 227 is an updated 77W with the new business-class seat. It leaves two hours earlier at 2120.

Would you… sacrifice a nice relaxed dinner with family and friends in order to get to the airport at 7.20pm to fly in the new seat, or
have a nice night out and put up with the old coughpy regional layout?

Either way, not expecting to get very good sleep on a 7hr flight...

Thanks for your comments.

Cheers, MrMNJ.

My personal view is that unless you are going straight to 'sleep' for these overnight flights, you aren't going to get much rest on either flight.

I'd take the late flight, have a nice dinner w family before the flight, and then get on board and straight to 'sleep'.

IMHO absolutely take the earlier flight - it's a no brainer - get to the SKL couple hours early and make a mess of the Bolly or whatever is sitting in that silver ice bucket in the bar area - 7hr flt on a flat bed with a sleeping tablet and I can sleep from wheels up to wheels down - the sloping regional bed on 773 is a nightmare to try to sleep on - I never take that flt in J - but as always YMMV.

How often do you see family and friends? Are you with them all the time or will you not see them again for 6 months? If you won't my advice is not to sacrifice time with them to just try out a new "gadget" . If however you see them all the time go on try it out. Enjoy the full service on the flight and maybe get 3-4 hrs sleep!

Always interesting to see different opinions- I always think these profound dilemmas exist to occupy my mind and keep me off the streets ;)

Dajop, I see these folks often enough, and would have just spent a couple of days with them - but everyones point regarding coughpy sleep taken in - I'm going to try and reschedule the next day and take one of the daytime flights instead. We'll get to spend another good evening together and I'll catch up on movies on the plane next day!

SQ207 vs 217 anybody? I'm going with 217, i think.

Cheers!

217 will have full lunch service - 207 you will get breakfast - I cannot give you much more info as I would never take this flt.

Day flights a good option. 217 will either be 77W or A380 depending on travel date. 207 will either be 772 (with long haul seats) or 333. I'd probably go 217, you don't have to get up as early to make your way to the airport. And the lounge will empty out, such that in the hour or so before departure you'll have whole banks of seats to yourself :)

Earlier flight on the new 77W with no thinking time required!!!!

I'd go for the most convenient. Worry about sleep later. But then I don't travel to get good sleep.

Take the earlier flight!

At 2am in the morning as your body is aching for sleep the family dinner probably probably won't seem as important as the full flat bed you could have had leaving two hours earlier!

Not that it matters as OP has suggested now that they will take one of the day flights, but having taken both these flights many times, you are absolutely correct - the body is aching to sleep on the later flight because it's after midnight by the time it takes off. But I find that just means you sleep. Irrespective of seat.

I always get a better sleep on 237 (even in Y) because I am so much more tired when the plane leaves, and the angled seats are more than adequate ( you can get them into a reasonable position by putting a slight kink into the seat). On 227 I'm not ready to sleep until 3 or 4 hours into the flight and with only 2-3 hours left to sleep until descent begins., and when you're not tired enough to sleep the bed/seat makes no difference to me. Mind you I still take 227 because I arrives early enough to land and go to bed for a few hours!
