Splitting awards & then making a change - will it change POS?

Hi all,

Mrs Rock and I have an upcoming award booking (on the same PNR) to the US and only just found out she now needs to travel to Dallas the week before we go for work, if she flew back to Oz she's have less then 24hrs on the ground so she will stay over there and I will meet her.

I understand ringing up and splitting an award is a fairly easy and quick process (once you get through to an agent that is ;)), and I presume once done we'll have different booking references and PNR's. Does one of us keep the original booking reference, and in turn retain any confirmations associated to that booking (ie. chauffeur drive)?

Also as she will now be staying in the US we will drop her departing award flight from her itinerary, will this then change her POS on the ticket to the US? Reason being as the leg home is with EK and for some reason they jack the fuel surcharges right up out of the US so dropping the departing flight will actually cost us even more in surcharges!!! (go figure)

@madrooster might be one to help here based on their help in the OW RTW forum.
My gut feel says yes - but you never know how the agents will price it.
In trying to edit an ex mnl award a few weeks ago the agents were not applying ex mnl fuel charges and effectively wanted to triple my fines.

Thanks for that @exceladdict, I thought madrooster may have been able to help but I didn't want to be presumptuous and ask directly!

The remaining flight will need to have a ticket reissue as you are cancelling bound portion. Once you do the reissue the prevailing fare will be applied, including the applicable fees, taxes and charges. This can work both ways... in favour, or against the price, depending on the new route.

Thanks for that @MEL_Traveller that is what I thought, but wanted to double check - pretty coughpy because it will now cost us more for a one-way EK redemption then it is for the whole return trip!!!

Follow-up question, it looks like we will need to book the one-way fare to Dallas and then be reimbursed (has to be paid, no reimbursement for award flights form the looks) - so is it possible to substitute and include this outbound paid leg in the already created award itinerary???

Do they apply ex Canada or Mexico?
Wouldn't work for us regardless.

She'll be travelling to Sydney a few days before, so might make one of these domestic flights the first flight on the award ticket - this will save us about $500 in taxes.

The only thing now will be whether making these changes means the whole award is priced at the new rate of points, even though technically the EK F flights from the US were already booked and will not be changing....

According to the QF website the award tables talk about ‘bookings created... [before xx date/after xx date]’. And when i went to change an existing booking I wasn’t asked for more points. YMMV.
