With SPG, do you get WP (once you qualify) for the whole year AND the 2 months after? Or only after a certain date.

Ie. If I hit WP in March, am I good for 22 months?

SPG is based on calender year, plus whatever is left of the year you qualify in.

My understanding was (and from past experience), you get platinum benefits for the remainder of the year in which you qualified, the whole of the following calendar year, then until end of Feb of the year after that.

The qualifying period for retention of status is Jan 1 to Dec 31 though.

That was my recollection as well guys -just wasn't sure if you got penalized if you qualifies too early (eg feb).

Thanks

This is correct.

It is best to hit Platinum on 1 March 2014, as you will be Platinum until 28/2/2016. Yes, 2016. [ie remainder of 2014, plus 2015].

If you manage to do 25stays/50nights in Jan and Feb 2014, you will only keep platinum until 28/2/2014.

[I always hoped for double stay promotion in March of any year as it would give me close to two years of that status, however I never saw one unfortunately].

Thats not correct, hitting platinum this year at anytime will result in status until feb 28 2016.

7.1 Qualifying Period. The qualifying period for an SPG Member to earn elite membership status and become a Gold Preferred Guest or a Platinum Preferred Guest is from January 1st through December 31st of each year (the "Qualifying Period"). Once an SPG Member reaches elite membership status, the applicable benefits will commence during that Qualifying Period and continue through the next calendar year. For example, if an SPG Member meets the Gold Minimum Requirement during the 2012 Qualifying Period, the SPG Member will become a Gold Preferred Guest for the remainder of 2012 and for all of 2013.

Fairly sure Markis is right, it works a lot like HH. While there is a grace period for status until Feb if you didn't requal, stays in that period will give you status for the full 2 years.

I qualed gold once early Jan, kept it for over two years.

Same, but with HH, 26 months of status! Better than airline status in that regard.

If you had 10 days in BKK SPG plat could be done by the tenth day quite cheaply.

How markis? Might do it next time on back here. BKK is awesome

If you book 3 rooms for one night does it count as 3 stays?

3 rooms x 10 is only 30 nights

Wow didn't know that cheers!
Could you book the rooms, add someone as a guest and They check in? Similar to How ihg does it?

Just shoot me dead! I don't know why/what I was doing when I was a Platinum (for 6 years).

I knew that if I didn't requal platinum by end Dec, I would remain as platinum for Jan/Feb the following year, and then on 1 March drop to Gold. So then from 1 March I would qualify for Platinum again, and thus be Platinum for the balance of that year plus 12 months plus two months. Anyway, my weird thinking which wasn't quite correct after all.
