Hi,

I have searched but to no avail, however this refers to requesting special meals when travelling with 2 adults and 1 infant (18 months).

The QF MMB section only gives the option to select a special meal for the 2 adults, not the infant on the booking.

Is the infant entitled to a meal, or does the adult lose their meal should they select a special meal for the infant?

Thanks in advance!

I would give QF a quick call and ask them about the special meal for the infant. If they cannot add a special meal for the infant, and you don't want to bring your own food, then you might have to forego one adult meal for a special meal for the infant.

You can call and they will add an extra meal for infant and keep your meal.

I have done this many times over the years but thankfully the youngest of my infants are both 2 so I now order children's meals!

The booking isn't for a while, so no hurry from my end.

I do have lounge access, so it isn't a big loss if I lose my meal to feed the young one.

Perfect. Knowing the young ones eating habits, the Child's meal is probably a better fit, but I would imagine it wouldn't be possible to add that instead of the infants meal.

I should add that Qantas have become a bit funny over the last few years if you are travelling in economy class on a non Breakfast Lunch or Dinner segment. They sometimes do not allow special meals for such economy flights. Mind you I had a flight last week - MEL to ASP which was technically a non-mail meal flight but they did allow a special meal. Perhaps it is also based on flight duration.

The main flights in question are PER-MEL return.

I do have a MEL-BNE thrown in there, but the 10am flight shouldn't be an issue as he should be ok, but the return flight is a lunch flight any ways.

You need to ring or if booked through an agent, they can add, toddler meals are broken into two age categories, one for domestic and one for international whcih have different age brackets:

Request toddler meal (up to 35 months)
(11-23 mths International / 12-35 mths Domestic)

When your child is still a lap infant & not yet occupying a paid seat the meal request goes in against the adult associated to the infant as an SSR eg "SPML-one adult meal and one toddler meal" as you cannot have more than one meal request per pax. The SPML code is not a meal code in itself but is followed by free format so you can expand on what's required.

You need to call the airline for this because if you add a meal request online via MMB only one meal will be provided as per whatever SSR code you select.

Refreshment flights outside meal times will not accept meal requests eg VLML.
