Does anyone else have this problem - whenever I check in to go to NZ the good folk at QF have to call through to NZ Immigration to get clearance before I'm issued with a boarding pass. Apparently someone with the same name is not popular in NZ. It doesn't happen for any other destination. Once they had to issue me a hand written boarding pass because the system wouldn't let them do it, and when I got to the gate they said they were expecting me and did another passport check and phoned "upstairs" to confirm I wasn't the dodgy chap. Aus immigation didn't like the hand written BP either (I've kept it for posterity) It used to annoy me, but now it's been happening for two years and I think I'll miss it if they ever catch the guy :)

Actually, I did Google my own name. And discovered some very clever chap in the UK with the same name. Moreover his other half has the same name as Mrs GPH !!!'

I used to work with a guy who has the same name as someone wanted in NZ.

So our usual drill was I always went before him at immigration as I never had problems. Then I go grab our bags and the hire car and meet him there once I had done the signature.

Sure enough, he always got pulled aside and asked to walk with an immigrations supervisor for a few questions. His delay was usually 10-15mins.

I once heard a guy call into ABC local radio, they were discussing nominative determinism, he said that when he was in gaol there was very high number of inmates with the name Jason :)
Any school teacher will tell you the kids whose names start with J are trouble.

Wouldn't it be good if NZ could have redress numbers as they do in the US which is handy when you have the same name as someone in the mafia.

Agree ozbeachbabe. I'm fortunate to be able to use first class check in, so we can just go take a seat while they sort it out, if I was using Y check in I imagine it would be very frustrating. You'd think that they could update some database with my passport details. I have googled my name and NZ but can't find anything of note, so he's not infamous, probably just a little cough:)

I was at home in Melbourne one night when the Marriott Resort and Spa, Surfers Paradise, called and asked to speak to me.............. and then to ask how my hand was healing being cut by glass in a bar fight a bit earlier that night as "I" had left the scene before their staff could assist in full....

I pointed out that my hand was fine....but I was at home in Melbourne.

They had just looked up my name in the system and as I had stayed there several times it came up with my phone number. Naturally I requested they update their records and suggested that they should be more careful how they check in people and that they make sure that there were no adverse notes of my records!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this guy is everywhere!

Current affair or one of the other quality investigative news shows did a piece three years ago about people with the same name.

They claimed that 3 Australian's had someone with the same name, date of birth and birth place.

A Perth man couldn't understand why he could get a loan and on further investigation they found a person in jail in QLD for fraud with the same details.

True or cough..no ideas
