Ok, Ive been wondering this for a while and this seems like the best place to ask...

I often have aircraft over my house as they come in to land at ADL. I live about 60kms from the Airport and they are around 2000 ft.

I can almost always pick the TigerAir A320s as they seem louder than other A320s/B737.

Am I crazy or do they do something different on approach?

Not at all crazy. I'm also under that flight path, just north of north east road. The A320s of tiger and Jetstar have a completely different pitch and sound intensity. The A330s of CX/sq/mh/EK are also easy to pick. So I can basically hear the aircraft and say Jetstar/tiger/737/ international flight. My brother in law is convinced I've memorized the flight schedules of all airlines.

I believe that there is a difference in noise levels between aircraft. Though I'd be a bit concerned if there are aircraft flying over your house at 2,000 feet if you live 60km from the airport...

Most of the A320 definitely have a different pitch/tone. Much higher pitched.

Oh, I see. I think I mean 2000m. Sorry about that.

Although TigerAir have been known to fly a little lower than they are supposed to.

Im not sure if it makes a difference but when they land on 05 they head out over the ocean and make a hard right turn back to the Airport.

Without looking up the information a point of speculation is whether they have the same engines?

obviously one is more a roaring sound, and the other is the 'dit-dit dit-dit dit-dit' interference from a mobile phone sound (especially if they are coming in to land... or rather 'go-round')

think you better record yourself making the sounds and upload them... would be helpful.. and hilarious.

The discussion brings to mind the Ansett 727s which we used to hear roar eastwards on runway 07/25.
