Just a thought - is there an airline policy to seat single males together?

Took a quick trip Brisbane/Darwin return last week (Tiger) and noticed on each leg my two seat companions were also middle age males, each travelling alone.
I understand the policy re children, but wonder if it also applies with women.

Hadn't noticed before, as usually accompanied by wife.

I wasn't aware that any airline was trying to seat males together.

I think the % is going to be higher that you're seated next to a male, simply because of the higher ration of males flying for business? I have a 99.9% hit rate of being seated next to men over the past 20 years of (single) flying; was *very* surprised when I was seated next to a female on my last J flight - BKK-SYD.

It changes when I fly with my partner - 100% female.;)

I really hope not - still waiting for the early-mid 20's single chick to be seated next to me.

BUT as I think I am the only under 25 with Gold status I don't like my chances :( :(

Should have spent more time chatting up the reds/silvers when I was seated back with them.

I used to drive Interstate buses and policy was to separate the sexes when signing seats.

This gets up my nose, it implies I am either a rapist or child molester. Surely this discrimination can't be allowed

Actually it is supported and encouraged by those who normally speak out against discriminatory practices.

yeah... normally preceded by 'I'm not discriminatory but...'

Which has about as much credence as 'I'm not racist but...' or 'I'm not homophobic but...'

Tracey Spicer sees all men as a paedophile risk and would rather be safe than sorry and sums up the hysteria nicely: I don't want my kids sitting next to a man on a plane

This doesn't match my experience.

I suspect it's just a short-term coincidence.

Tracey Spicer is just a cultural Marxist feminazi spouting the typical Twittersphere leftist rubbish.

As a single male, I find I tend to sit next to other single males, that said I've also noticed that it tends to be males whom travel by themselves, at least on the planes I've been on. I've also sat next to many a single female. So I've never noticed that there seemed to be any real policy.

Slightly offtopic. Today in the Flounge in SYD, all the tables in both restaurant areas were taken by white middle aged men seated on their own. But I don't think that is policy!

Two flights today. One on VA,one on QF.Both times seated next to a woman.
Until about 5 years ago when I was travelling by myself both DJ and QF regularly assigned me a seat down the back with unaccompanied kids.

And personally I don't get this preoccupation with eating raw onion.Fine in a salad or accompanying smoked salmon. And I admit to eating a nice sweet Vidalia onion by itself.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It is hard to say with any certainty of airlines have such policies considering that you don't know if a seat has been selected by the pax or the airline.

As for the UM topic, best not to go there again.
