Singapore airlines offer these flights Sydney to coughet:

SQ232 Singapore Airlines
Departs Sydney (SYD) 11:15
Arrives Singapore (SIN) 17:40

Layover time 0hrs 55min

SQ5058 Operated by Silkair
Departs Singapore (SIN) 18:35
Arrives coughet (HKT) 19:20

I'm concerned that the layover time of 55mins is not long enough between flights, but think why would Singapore Airlines offer this as an options if it's not possible. Has anyone had any experience flying this combo?

Thanks Brad

I believe the minimum connection time that SQ has for SQ to SQ at SIN is 50 minutes.

That said, I have connected OK on 55 minutes with SQ-SQ [SYD-SIN-KUL] even if it includes a sky-train trip to another Terminal.

Welcome to AFF :D.

If on the one booking then SQ will 'protect you' if you miss the connection.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. When you say SQ will 'protect' me, would that include getting me on a competitors flight as the 18:35 is the last SQ flight for the night?

Thanks for your assistance

Either that or they will put you up in a hotel, provide meals and transportation and a seat on their next service, depending on what's available (it might be that the competitor's flight is full, or doesn't have a ticketing arrangement with SQ)

It's worth noting that there is a tiny bit of padding in schedules, so if your flight leaves Syd on time you should get in a little early. The downside is that if the flight is late ex SYD then you will be stuck with one of the other options mentioned above.

Not spot on what the OP was asking but we had a SQ KUL-SIN & SIN-SYD with the MCT in Feb. Unfortunately the KUL-SIN was late & despite the common terminal of the flights we missed the connection. We were put on a later SQ flight that night-at the time (I rang SQ when booking) we knew that was the best "protection" we were going to get.

Should be fine, most SYD flights come in early as there is some fat in the timetable, although at that time of day I would expect an on time arrival - due to ATC delays - which are essentially factored into the timetable.

If it's any reassurance, unless there's a long taxi queue I am usually walking in my front door at home in less than 50 mins from landing at SIN, and that includes baggage collection, so all else being equal you should be OK. And on the same booking you should be protected.

Hi All,
Thank you for all of the replies. It's hard to believe that 55 minutes would be enough time, but apparently as you say Changi is the most efficient airport in the world and this layover time is common practice. So I now feel assured that all will be good.

Thanks
Brad

From my experience, SQ flights depart and arrive pretty well on time, but my experiences with Silk Air haven't been as good.

I've made it gate to gate from T3 to T2 (IIRC) in 35 mins for a Silk Air to SQ connection SIN-ADL, when the MI flight from BLR-SIN departed 40 mins late (they made up 20 mins delay in flight).

Unfortunately a few months later the same MI BLR-SIN flight was delayed 3 hrs and missed my connecting SQ SIN-ADL flight. SQ arranged accommodation and hotel transfers, with everything organised and waiting for you as you came off the MI flight. The re-scheduled SIN-ADL flight was SQ279 again, but 24 hours later.

I've done LHR-SIN-PER with just 45mins connection time. Not only did I make the connection, I had time to drop by the lounge and grab a drink!

Not quite the same but once I was on standby for SIN-BOM (landside as had luggage), and at 30mins before departure they handed me my BP. So through immig, to the lounge for a quick bite (as catering not assured) and drink then off to board. No problems at all. I think the key thing with Changi is to think of it like a domestic airport in Australia, except for the gate security (which can have queues, but not if arriving at the gate 10-15mins before departure).
