In mid-April, I'm going to a conference in SIN at the Shangri-La, and as it's school holidays, the whole fam is coming along. We'll have 8nights in total, 4 pre-conf, 3 days of conf, 1night, and then home the next night.
Mr Katie has said that he doesn't want to pack & move hotels part-way through the stay (because he does all the packing ... ;)). I'm not sure about staying at the ShangriLa the whole time. The Intercontinental has been a fond favourite for the past three trips. I am Diamond with Hilton so contemplating staying there, as it seems to be walkable distance to ShangriLa.
I have upcoming Hyatt and Staybridge stays, but atnthis stage nothing likely to gain me status in their systems.

Any thoughts on what you'd do? Little Miss is 6 & we always have her in a trundle in our room rather than getting a second room. I looked at Conrad for a few nights before Mr Katie made his "no moves" request, but kids under 12 aren't allowed in the Exec Lounge.

Hilton?
Intercontinental & MRT for me on conference days??

Bummer that the hubby has put his foot down.

I'm a recent fan for changing hotels....did it last week in SIN & it felt like we moved to a new city!

First stay was close to Orchard Rd & the last was down on the bay.....completely different feel & really enhanced the trip.

I actually quite like the Shangri-La in Singapore, provided that its the valley wing I'm staying in. The smallest room type (deluxe) in the valley wing is as about as large as a room gets without going down to a suite and the free flowing bubbly is pretty awesome especially when you've been out working/sightseeing all day in the hot & humid Singaporean weather.

The only issues you may have is that I am not too sure if they allow kids in the summit room for breakfast so you may have to end up having breakfast at the line (the buffet restaurant) in the main tower wing. Also, it is a bit of a walk to the MRT station from the hotel but they do have shuttle buses that depart every 30 minutes (from my most recent visit in March, it was on the dot every hour and half past the hour) that takes you to a few places near the Orchard MRT.

If the valley wing is out of the question, my other preferred option would be the Mandarin Oriental which is just across the road from Conrad.

Thanks mitwg, we just got home from Singapore this morning. We ended up staying at the Hilton for the 8 nights. Itmwas walking distance to the ShangriLa. Could've possibly stayed at the ShangriLa for the conference. Staying on Orchard Rd was definitely new to us, but after paying SGD200/night for a suite room, we were pretty happy with the space. Should probably look into two adjoining rooms next time to see how that might compare.

Sounds like an awesome deal for S$200!

Hilton is at a great location too in terms of MRT access. The walk to SL is around triple that I think

According to my extensive research (ahem, Google Maps) it was a 650m walk from SL to Hilton. That can feel like a bit more in the humidity ;) I don't recall if that was via the front driveway or the side route.

I will say that the Line restaurant had the most AMAZING lunch buffet. We had lunch there all 3 days of the conference - prawns, oysters, sliced to order sashimi, sushi, salads, Chinese dumplings, some Indonesian/Malay foods, Indian, Japanese, soups/noodles on demand, desserts including choc fountain and ice creams with mix ins like Cold Rock.

So, Starbucks was closer for Mr Katie. We've become a bit too used to the quick walk to the MRT at Bugis from the IC. And the foodie streets nearby ...

How is the Hilton SIN? Did you get a room upgrade? I'm still deciding which hotel for our trip to SIN in sep!

Mr Katie sounds like he's being no fun at all ;) Honestly...no changing hotels....

I thought it was very nice. I don't know if we would have received a free upgrade, I ended up selecting one of the pre-checkin upgrades for SGD200/night ("reduced" from SGD300) to an executive suite. Exec lounge was nice, decent selection of brekky options, nibbles, wine, and drinkies from 6-8:30pm at night. Main restaurant of course had a wider selection of items in the brekky buffet, but horrid coffee. Liked the extra space we had, especially as we were there for 8 nights with a 6.5yo. (Mr Katie has suggested it might have been enough space and better value to get an adjoining room instead of paying for such an upgrade). FWIW, the food in the lounge seems to contain no pork at all. We went down to the restaurant breakfast buffet one morning with my child chanting "bacon, bacon, bacon". I guess she was missing it upstairs in the exec lounge!

It was odd staying on Orchard Rd, as we never have before. We probably prefer the Intercontinental as it's a bit easier to get to the MRT station. It was really a minor issue though.

LOL. ;)
Maybe I should just organise it and discuss such things over the food in the SYF Flounge as we leave ... or when he's proclaiming "I love you" after our on-board upgrade to Y+ on the flight home on Sat night.
