Flight is not needed until May 2015, but am starting to plan now to try and determine availability on this route.

Ideally I would like 2 J class awards on the direct JAL flight YVR - NRT. Is this possible?? So far I haven't been able to find any seats on this flight.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the best place to check for JAL award seat?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What are you using to check for JL availability? I think I've heard that the JAL website is - maybe not surprisingly - the best way to check for availability. IIRC you need to apply for a JAL Mileage Bank account - this is free. You don't need any points (or the required points) to do award searches, although you may have to search one date at a time.

Of course, if you are looking at May 2015, you can't search this availability until ~300 days (whatever the time JL release the award seats, let alone JMB) before your intended travel date.

I'm not sure how availability would be on this route, but it may be worth banking on some alternative indirect routings if you can afford the time, e.g. via HKG, or via DFW or LAX.

Thanks anat0l. I have been checking availability through AA and QFF as I would be redeeming the seats through one of those programs. I hadn't though of checking JMB as I wouldn't be able to redeem through them, however as you say it is the obvious place to start  So I created a JMB account and there appears to be a reasonable pattern of J availability on this route. JMB requires return flights to be booked, no one ways allowed.
I cross checked some available dates on AA, and the JAL flights are not available there. The only availability is indirect flights. So perhaps my original question should have been does anyone know which OW partners (if any) JAL release seats to?

We can not understand why you want to go direct.

If you wanted to do some sight seeing there would be a hundred replies.

You are probably very right Simo - going direct goes against the creed of AFF :p

If I were travelling along I would be happy to connect, however my mother is coming with me on this trip, and at her advancing years finds travel very tiring, so I am endeavouring to reduce travel time / airport transits / security screening etc by going direct. Sorry guys, don't withdraw my membership ;)
