Sorry if this is in the wrong place - or wrong thread.

Been a Platimun member for many years but now demoted to Gold ( my choice to change job and not to travel). Been trying to book a J class to LHR return - my date is Aug 2012- but have been looking earlier to suit available dates. Problem is that I specify "Business" - searches come up - but then tell me that its economy on the major flight (ie SIN to LHR) - if I wanted economy then I'd search for economy!

Any suggestions?

No problems on Oz domestic - or on SQ (PPS but now demoted to Silver) - just booked to coughet - no probs.

That is a known glitch in the QF award booking engine where it would include economy class flights if it has found some business class availability. Not sure why it is there but perhaps trapping people into booking economy and paying business class award rates for the privilege.

Anyway as for availability to LHR around July 2012 the London Olympics would be around that time so award seats may go as soon as they are released at ~350 days in advance.

The olympics don't help - but I live in Perth - and I guess that QF just disregards us - last time I flew to Europe (for hols) - I booked a paid ticket on another airline because QF couldn't provide a FF ticket (Plat + partner Gold). Hope that QF gets their act together - or else SQ/EK.

I don't think it has anything to do with Perth - just looking at the SIN-LHR leg, there is currently no J availability for 1-10th August (nothing will be loaded for the rest of August because it's more than 365 days ahead). So, I would keep looking. Also check BKK-LHR and indirect routings (HKG-LHR? SIN-HEL-LHR? etc.)

Also, if QANTAS thinks it can sell all these seats, then I suppose there is little incentive for them to release them as award seats.

I have been searching several times a day for classic award seats PE leaving Heathrow on July 29 2012 and they were never made available. I ended up buying an Any seat award and paying some money. And now, even those seats have a route that isnt the best (ie much longer). I dont think they ever made them available (using FF from a Gold member)

As a WP, have you tried calling the QF premium desk? You'll have to pay the assist fee, but you might find that they can get award availability where none exists online..

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
