Saver lite - can't add bag

In the past I would add 1 bag to my 1 complimentary @ $18 when travelling with the family. What do others do when travelling in a group but everyone doesn't need a bag? Now with Saver lite vs Saver I have to book all 4 tickets into Saver @ $18 extra each or pay $40 for 1 bag at the airport? Otherwise book 1 into saver and book the other 3 + infant on a separate PNR into Saver lite?

Looks like we must have traveled light on the last trip then...any comments on the options? Already have 1 through status - maybe we should be popular and take 4 carry ons + baby bag? What do others do? Any issue with linking the PNRs?
