Will be flying Sin to Bne on EY in Feb '08, Y class. Have been informed that Etihad uses the SATS Lounge in Terminal 2. This is a new experience for us, so would ask any members who may have traversed this area for their pros and cons. Also can't find seating maps on Seat Guru, or Etihad web site. In Y, are they two-three-two, or two-two-two (plane is B773), would like to be in J & K to beat the rising sun. Thanks in advance,

Dee Thom,

Sorry I can't help you with the lounge access question.

Expert Flyer shows the configuration as two-four-two in J and three-three-three in Y.

I hope that is of some help to you.

Seemed like a reasonable lounge when I was there earlier this year. Hot food, decent seating area, free WiFi.

Didn't sample the alcohol as it was stupidly-early-o'clock and I was dead tired already (somewhere in the vicinity of 1hr sleep after a big night).

Not as visually impressive as the QF/BA J Lounge, but nice enough. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Febs, It was however noon somewhere in the world. Plus would have had the added benefit of helping your sleep situation.:p

The SATS Lounge is a decent place to spend some time waiting for a flight. I actually prefer it aesthetically to the SKL J, though there's no Piper Hiedsieck at the SATS lounge. There will be hot food at meal times; snacks (sandwiches, pastry etc) at other times. Alcohol selection is basic - usually a red and a white, some spirits and beer.

Here are some pics:

QF009, do you go anywhere without your camera?

I'd worry less about the quality of the lounge and more about the quality of the airline you're flying.

I've lost count of the complaints regarding Etihads "service" or lack thereof.

I personally wouldn't fly them, despite them having a flat bed in J.

Would be keen to hear your experiences with them

Last time through SIN I was departing on JAL so had a choice of the SATS lounge (JL check-in gave me an invitation to SATS lounge) or QF J lounge (by way of Oneworld Sapphire status). The SATS lounge has significantly better food and drink offerings and was less crowded than the QF lounge in the evening. Also had about a dozen PCs available for use.

That's the SATS Lounge in T1. I was supposed to use it when flying LX out of SIN, but instead chose to walk over to SKL F in T2 (when they still had Dom Perignon)... Later, one of the SKL girls organised a buggy ride for me back to the LX gate in T1.

Personally I didn't think much of SATS T1 when I was there. Pretty small and very packed with no snacks or champers left. The QF lounge next door was fine though I have never seen this empty either!

Let's face it, any lounge is better than sitting in the gate area with an over priced coffee or flat beer (cue flashbacks to SEA on AA).

If the OP could post a quick trip report that would be great.

I think that maybe you haven't been to the T1 SATS lounge for a little while. It got a major makeover fairly recently, improving its size and facilities considerably. It's a much nicer lounge now, IMHO.

On the other hand, I find the SATS lounge in T2 to be quite pokey and down market. That's the ambience SQ's influence has brought about, as it didn't want the T1 SATS lounge to compare favourably with the SKL.

I must say I agree with Travel Guru's comments on not wanting to fly Etihad. Who wants to be carted of to a torture chamber in the middle of the desert for not smiling nicely enough at the flight attendants.

Has anyone actually been carted off to a torture chamber for not smiling at the FAs? I thought drunk boorish tossers decided to strip off their clothes and verbally abuse FAs after having had too much alcohol were taken to a jail? I do not recall any stories of torture.

Sounds like you read a very different review of what happened on that Etihad flight that I read. Do you have a reference for your version?

This is the version I read. But its only one side of the story as reported in the media. It seems you may have found the other side of the story - or another story altogether  .

I don't recall any stories of torture either, though dealing with the airline itself seems torturous at times.

The biggest gripe with the airline is their lack of customer service from the checkin staff, duty manager to the stewards.

I would imagine if I were new to a market, i'd be going out of my way to make a good impression, but Etihad seem to thrive on making things difficult for the customer at every turn.

For example, pax turning up at airport with 1 letter wrong on ticket, having to purchase a whole new ticket, put the existing in for refund and wear cancellation when every other airline would just reissue it on the spot and charge a small service charge.

Meals coming out on flights unheated, and when questioned by pax, told if they want their meal warmed up they'll have to wait 20 minutes after the service is finished.

Pax being told they're greedy when asking for a full glass of orange juice instead of the half offered.

Pax confirms a Gluten free meal but is told by cabin crew it wasnt loaded so just don't eat the bread!

Agent being told by duty manager that it's their incompetance that is behind why pax is being refused boarding when infact it's because pax left his paper ticket at home.

Need I go on???

Etihad are just as joke of an airline to me, one incident I put down to a bad day, but when it happens repeatedly and at all levels of the company, you realise it's culture not bad luck thats behind it.
