Santiago and Buenos Aires Hotels and Sight Recommendations?

we're off in a few weeks to Santiago, Buenos Aires and a trip through Patagonia. Only five days in Buenos Aires.. hotel and attractions that make you feel you're in Buenos Aires and not a Holiday Inn in Chicago?

Santiago and Vina del Mar? Any recommendations?

I was highly recommended The Singular in Santiago.

Left booking hotel in Santiago to someone else and they booked the San Cristobel Tower. It was a good hotel, excellent views from the top at breakfast and fantastic steak in adjoining restaurant. Only issue was that it was located on the edge of the city centre so was not handy for that (we only had an afternoon and night there).
