Has anyone used Royal Brunei Airlines recently?
Do yo need a visa if you stop over for a day or two?
Anything worth checking out from a tourist point of view?

regards

Have not used them but believe they can be great value as a dry airline that departs at terrible hours!

As for the visa requirements, Travel Advice for Brunei Darussalam - Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is always the place to check in regards warnings and travel/visa requirements:

Transit visas (valid for 72 hours) and single and multiple entry visas can be issued to Australian passport holders on arrival. The visa fee must be paid in cash in either Brunei or Singapore dollars. There is a money changer in the arrival hall of the airport beyond the immigration control point, but no banking facilities.
You should check your entry stamp in your passport to confirm your permitted length of stay.
Immigration regulations are strict. Australians working in Brunei are strongly advised to closely monitor their immigration status and visa expiration dates.
A departure tax is payable in local currency at Brunei International Airport in Bandar Seri Begawan, this tax is sometimes incorporated into the cost of the air ticket, and Muara sea port.
Make sure your passport has at least six months' validity from your planned date of return to Australia. You should carry copies of a recent passport photo with you in case you need a replacement passport while overseas.

I used to think so as well but it is not the end of the world. They have a great business class airfare BNE-BKK and one can purchase duty free alcohol and drink on board.

Thanks, I've calmed down now...

Just be aware that any alcohol that you want to take on board must be duty free sealed otherwise they will take it off you.

For instance if you wanted to fly BKK - BNE it has a stopover in BWN.

If you open the bag containing the alcohol on the BKK - BWN leg you will not be able to take that alcohol back on board after the stopover. They will take it off you.

If you wanted to drink on both legs you would need to have two seperately sealed bags, and ditch the open bottle in BWN.

I spent a few days in Brunei last year, and it's quite an interesting little place, definitely worth a look around; the RBA tour sounds a good idea. The thing that will really make your jaw drop is the price of petrol!

A 5 hour tour of Brunei is 4 hours too long. Prepare to be underwhelmed. A boat trip to Pulau Labuan (in Malaysia) might be more interesting.

It is not a five hour tour. It is for people who have layovers in excess of 5 hours.

I flew with Royal Brunei in 2009 and could not fault them....super service, great food and plenty of it, seemed to just keep coming, the drinks cart was up and down the aisle often, blankets and pillows....if you love your alcohol, then do not bother with them, but otherwise for a budget airline, they gave Australias' budget airlines a run for their money!

I am using them again this October as they again had the cheapest airfares!

We used them in 2009 and we left before noon and arrived in the late afternoon, they were not terrible hours....We were a family of 5.

I am travelling with them by myself in October and I am leaving at midnight, but for $600.00 return I cannot complain...

If you wanted to drink on both legs you would need to have two seperately sealed bags, and [-]ditch the open bottle[/-] finish the contents of the first bag before arriving in BWN.

There, fixed that one for you. ;)
