Load factors pretty low due to maybe more competition from QF Link, anywhere where they are competing against VA ATR42's or against QF Link Dash 8's they would be massaccred on costs...

Shutdown of the cattle industry in Western QLD, northern and south costal NSW and Tas economies are in deep recession, and loss of mining charter clients would not have helped either. The owners of Sydney airport would not exactly be on their christmas card list either. An $18M profit on $180M-$190M turnover is hardly encouraging either when you think they will have to replace their entire, and quite numerous Saab 340 fleet at some point.

Having said that - their shares were worth more than QF for a couple of crazy days!

Anyway - I will have some fun trying to redeem some free earned flights in their now defunct FF program!

Sorry, I find these sorts of comments, including those from Rex on the linked website, a bit over the top.

Yes, the carbon tax will see their costs rise. However, on the big players, it adds a couple if dollars to a MEL-SYD flight. Even if you triple it to allow for Rex's load factor and given they operate smaller aircraft, it would only add $10-15 to the cost of what is usually a pretty expensive flight anyway.

They are simply using the carbon tax as a scapegoat and the ACCC needs to get on top of this.
