Perkler launched an iPhone app today with all the perks from retailers in Australian malls. Curious to know everyone's thoughts, and if anyone has downloaded it then feedback would be greatly appreciated.
iTunes Store: Perkler for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad on the iTunes App Store
YouTube Preview: YouTube - Perkler 2.0
Please take note that the youtube video is old and the current version does not have barcodes. This is not due to a limitation to Perkler, but a limitation between the compatibility of the iPhone with current barcode scanners.
Most barcode scanners used in Australia are still using lasers. With the iPhone (especially iPhone 4) this creates reflections off the glass and in fact, the barcode scanner never scans the barcode as it is on the screen, not the front glass that sends the reflection. New barcode scanners being used in the US (and other places) scan by taking an image rather than using a laser. Barcode scanning off smart phones works particularly well with these models, however, as they are not a big part of Australian retailing thus far the barcode functionality has been removed from the app to avoid negative user experience.
Keen to know everyone's thoughts.
Cheers,
Graham
