Reward Seats

I'm interested redeeming my points for a J award seat using points + pay. I was looking all over the virgin website and was unable to find whether reward seats earn SCs. I'm aware they don't earn velocity points though.

Can someone clear that one up for me? Cheers!

20.4.2 Unless otherwise specified, Status Credits are not earned for the following:

(a) tickets which are unused (in whole or part) or refunded (in whole or part). If the Member does not travel on all Flight Sectors of an Itinerary, the Member will not earn Status Credits in respect of the unused Flight Sectors;
(b) others flying with the Member (even if the Member has paid for their ticket);
(c) travel on Charter Flights (unless otherwise specified at time of booking);
(d) Reward Seat tickets;
(e) tickets issued by other loyalty programs;
(f) travel industry rebated tickets;
(g) competition prize tickets;
(h) tickets acquired at an auction;
(i) travel by Virgin Australia team members on duty or on staff concessional travel;
(j) tickets which are subject to any specific provisions excluding the accumulation Status Credits which may include, for example and without limitation, discounted or complimentary tickets; or
(k) ground or sea transport services with a Virgin Australia or Airline Partner flight number.

So I guess it's better using ugrademe points instead of points plus pay?
Because then at least you get the points and SC's for the base fare, right?

Are you looking at flights tagged as " business reward" or just " Business" when you view with points ?

The Business reward do not earn points/ SC

The ones shown as business DO earn points and SC

If you do a upgrade( with points or a $$ bid) you will earn at the original fare type

Buying the base fair so that you earn status credits and then upgrading to business with points is an inefficent use of points IMO. If you are desperate for status credits, then I get it but point burn is ugly, especially if you dont buy a flexi ticket.
