Please could anybody advise me what would happen if I booked a return KFF award flight where one leg is available and the other is waitlisted, if the waitlisted seat does not clear... will the available leg remain confirmed, or get cancelled?

I understand if I paid cash to "top up" the last couple of thousand miles required for the booking, these would be lost if the waitlist seat fails to clear, but what about any cash paid for taxes & surcharges on top of the miles, would this be refunded?

Lastly, does having Elite Gold status at the time of making the waitlist booking have any impact on how likely it is to clear? And then if the status expires after making the booking, before the date of the flight - would this decrease the chance if it clearing?

Thank you :)

Previously the entire booking would remain the int waitlist status till the waitlist is cleared or rejected.

Recently, however, SQ seems to want me to book the available leg and then wait for the waitlisted legs. SQ has proactively set a deadline for booking and then drop the available leg from the booking :-(

I have called them a few times but I was told book what is available or loose them... I asked what happens if the waitlist does not clear, and the answer was 'too bad... you'll have a one way travel booked and you'll need to either find alternative way to complete the travel or cancel (and pay any applicable cancellation fee).

Ok thank you, that's a shame as it makes moving my points over from Velocity to KF to make the booking seem a lot riskier in case I have to cancel and then am stuck with the devalued point transfer and 3 year expiry.
