I vaguely recall a topic on this ages ago...

Just wondering if anyone have had any success in writing to Qantas to ask to retain membership status, when you don't acquire enough SC that year, based on loyalty?

I've been Gold for 5,6 years straight and am cutting right down on traveling this year due to a new born. Can anyone offer any advice on whether it's worth the effort writing to Qantas and ask if I can retain my membership status for another year?

Thanks

TT

I wouldn't advise this. When your renewal date gets close, QF will look at your account and, in this instance, I suspect they will comp you another year as Gold. Not guaranteed, of course. They sometimes also write to you, asking for your travel plans for the next year, and that is taken into account when making the decision.

A real live human being makes the decision on whether the status is continued.

I suspect actually requesting a continuation of your Gold status may count against you. A bit like someone who asks for a comp upgrade may immediately get marked as "unsuitable for upgrade" !!

A popular user of this forum asked such a question recently as they were in a road accident and their travel was down considerably, they were told no.

That said, another user also asked Qantas Loyalty recently how complimentary retaining of status works and from what I recall of the post it took into account your last 3 years of membership, so there's a fair chance you'd be comped Gold, but I don't think it's certain.

As John has said, if you are close to the points required, and a proven loyal customer, you might get an extension anyway. This happened to me a few years back as a Gold. The following year I qualified WP on my own revenue bookings so QF got a return on their faith in my loyalty.

I will admit that if I had dropped to nil Status on my flying hiatus I prob would have had less incentive to try to rebuild the points and might have switched to Velocity as I had nothing to lose.

this was a few years back and now after a few years aas a WP or SG I'm now pushing LTG so it won't be a problem again :)

I can confirm this was the information given at the lunch.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What has been your average status credit balance on anniversary over the last three years, I would suggest if you have racked up 1800 SC over that time your looking good, and its a system that reflects real world ups and downs in a nice way. I was once compe'd SG with 120 SC when Markis10jr was born, I repaid the favor by hitting 2100 SC the next year!
