Retaining Gold and attaining Platinum question

Hi AFF Community,

Long time reader first time poster here, I have been lurking around the background for a while

I am currently a Velocity Gold member with currently 240SC with another 160SC to earn by August which I will get easily as I have just landed a new job that will be sending me to SIN and HKG quarterly in business class.

My status anniversary date is August 17. If I retain Gold in say May, will I only have until August to try and attain platinum? I have been reading the Velocity site and it isn't entirely clear as to what happens with the SC I have earned since about November when I started the bulk of my flying.

Hi and welcome

Um as far as I know, When you log in and check your account details you will see Upgrade to Platinum and on the top right hand side of that table you will see Show Details, if you click on that, you will see the dates in detail when you must earn 1000SC to qualify for platinum.

For example on my page, it says I have until June 2012 to earn 400 SC to make platinum.

Status upgrades aren't tied to your anniversary year. Basically, every day the system looks at how many status credits you've earnt in the previous 12 months, and if you get to 1000 - you're upgraded to Platinum. There's also a requirement for you to have flown 8 DJ/VA segments before the system will upgrade you, but I don't think that's kicked in yet.

On the day you are upgraded, your account anniversary is changed to that day - you then have 12 months from that date to requalify.

Looks like I have until the 15th November to make Platinum - should be doable easily!

Just to clarify, if you make another 1500 SC, after you hit your 1000 SC to get platinum.

Hint: You'd be better off at this point switching on family pooling and directing all your SCs to your partner, then they'd get their very own Platinum in 1000 SCs, rather than 1500 for gold or 2000 for platinum!

Yep, that was the plan. Currently utilising family pooling to get me up to platinum then will switch pooling my account and 2 kids over to the wife.

I plan on bringing the family with me twice a year so it should be no real issue getting her platinum also.

You don't necessarily have to hit it by November. For example, if by November you are at 900 SCs that doesn't mean you're going to miss out and drop back to 0. It is based on a rolling 12 months and is checked daily. Each day the SCs earned 12 months ago will drop off. So by December you might have lost say 50 SCs if they were earned the previous November, but if you earn another 150 by then, you'll be at 1000 for the rolling 12 months and hit platinum.

I wouldn't switch family pooling on at that point. As soon as you hit platinum, your membership year will reset, and all SCs from that day count towards requalfication. I would want to wait until hitting 800 SCs to requalify before pooling to another family member.
