I have a contract in Sydney which requires me to stay in Sydney out Penrith way for 12 months approximately. I am looking at travelling in Monday morning from Brisbane and staying in a hotel Monday to Thursday night inclusive. I have a feeling this may be more cost effective than setting up a unit and furnishing it and offers better flexibility.

Has anyone come to a similar arrangement with a hotel and if so what discount can be arranged. I was thinking re confirming 160 nights over next 12 months, saying that the room would only need making up on the Friday therefore allowing them to use for the weekend trade. Was thinking a 40% reduction in room rate would be the outcome.

please let me know your suggestions. Best of course would be a hotel I could pay with cc to get free points, and one that offered for points in addition.:D:oops::oops::oops:

If there is a choice of hotels, you should see which loyalty program is most useful to you. From which direction will you be travelling to Penrith?

i tried out similar bargaining in melbourne last year for 6 months worth of weeknight stays at CBD hotels, the major chains were unenthusiastic to say the least - i was offered token discounts which did not translate to lower than sale prices in some instances.

if you have 12 months confirmed i would think an apartment lease would be more appropriate and convenient - have had colleagues recommend https://www.corporatekeysaustralia.com.au/

I come from Brisbane so will fly in early Monday take the train to Penrith then stay overnight Monday thru Thursday nights.

It may be cheaper to get a lease on a fully furnished apartment.

I know it is not the same but I am paying $285/week in Milton. Could not possibly do it cheaper for 4 nights anywhere near here.

Sometimes, you can find a private rental in a private home as they enjoy the extra money and you are not around much, especially not on the weekend.

Air BNB and Stayz are both more expensive than Hotels and look as though they offer far less. Furnished apartment are limited and those I looked at are more than hotels per night.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This sounds a good deal for BNE, I would seriously look at this type of arrangement down Penrith way. Don't over estimate the value of hotel loyalty points

Years ago I had to organise accomodation in Sydney for 6 months for over 100 people..... and couldnt get anywhere NEAR a 40% rate cut....

Good luck... but I think that expectation might be a bit optimistic.

What ever you do don't pay up front. If the property falls below the advertised or your expected standard, it may be difficult to get a refund. Many factors come in to play. Pay 1 month in advance if anything.

I'm on the same boat but in Newcastle.

I started with a furnished hotel/apartment then tried student accommodation and end up renting/sharing a place in front of Newcastle beach with another guy.

I prefer the share house as costs similar, I can leave all my stuff and car in Newcastle = I don't have to travel with anything not even my laptops charger (I have 1 of everything in Brisbane and in Newcastle)

I also realised that having a comfortable place and sharing it with someone makes the week away from home a bit easier.

There was a nice tread in AFF about people who were on the same boat as us... I'll try to find it again. It was very helpful in many ways

Good luck mate
