Requesting Status Upgrade?

Hi everyone,

My first post, so be gentle...

I've just got off the phone with Qantas after calling them to ask for my status to be upgraded from Gold to Platinum for the next year.

I'm about 100 credits shy thanks to a travel agent booking me a BA code rather than a QF on one trip and was told I was too far off to be moved to platinum - "only 5-10 credits max".

Has anyone successfully reasoned with customer service on this issue? How did you manage it? I travel constantly for work, did about 8 long-haul EU/US trips in the last year, and will do the same again this year.

I'm not sure if I should call again and hope for better, email someone, Tweet, no idea. Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated.

Welcome aboard natti668, I don't have any experience of requesting a status upgrade sorry.

Looking at your post I assume you have made a nominal 1,300 SC's and would have made the 1,400 with a QF code instead of the BA code. You also mention your travel is consistent so you are likely to earn 1,300 - 1,400 next year (above the 1,200 required to retain).

Have you thought about doing a status run to get the extra 100 SC's? the cost would be offset a little by the extra QFF points you will earn from being WP (Platinum) instead of SG (Gold), the F Lounge access and better upgrade opportunities.

You may be sick of flying extra but I too would consider a status run to get the extra 100SC.
I seriously doubt you will get any luck with QF but believe me you definitely will enjoy the Platinum status extra especially if you fly international from SYD or MEL or fly through DBX.

I think even if your anniversary is June 30, you could still do a quick run. it would cost, but it's the safest way to get it

BUT

only if it's worth it to you to have Plat for the next membership year - ie your proposed travel habits, what use you could potentially make of the status (over Gold). it may well not be worth it.

You can always try asking again, though they may well have noted your request in your account.
