Ok Folks

I'm off to the US in 30 days and I'm looking for some tips - places to stay, things to do, MUST DO's, MUST EAT etc.

So far I need advice on the following:

  • A good place to stay in SFO - would like to stay for around 250 - 300 a night.
  • A good place to stay in NYC - I'd like a 2 bedroom apartment - catch is I have my parents travelling with me and Mrs Simsy, and they both have bad knees, so we need a place with an elevator. Want to keep the total cost to around $2500 for 4 nights (8 Sept - 12 Sept) will do 2 hotel rooms if needed. Won't share.
  • A place to stay in Washington - idea's thoughts sugestions
  • Flights from SFO - JFK/LGA - 8 Sept 4 pax
  • Flights from Washignton - LAX - 14 sept 2 pax
  • Flights from LAX - DFW - 14 sept 2 pax
  • Also any suggestions on where to stay on 5 sept? we're driving from Vegas to SFO

Dates for locations are as follows:
  • SFO - 6 - 8 Sept
  • NYC - 8 - 12 Sept
  • Was - 12 - 14 Sept

Appreciate the help people can give me!

Have you done any research yourself??? What you're asking is someone to plan your entire trip for you. Google and travel agents are a good start. Trip advisor reviews, Kayak for flight options/dates/airlines/costs etc. it's lots of fun going through various travel sites for ideas.
Perhaps when you've got some choices people can make suggestions easier.

Re: HELP!! Tips for the Trip to the US!

I stay at the Chancellor Hotel at Union Square on Powell Street in SF, less than the budget you have but I find superior service to many better hotels and a great location.

And when driving between LV and SF, I like to stay at Tehachapi, I stay at the Best Western Mountain Inn which has a 24 hour diner next door.

In Washington, surely the Watergate is the place to stay. :D

Re: HELP!! Tips for the Trip to the US!

Be in USA mid Aug, staying in SFO at Hilton in financial district, Vegas MGM signature suites, Dallas The Adolphus Hotel, tip if you want to see Alcatraz book early likr month before, also in SFO take a ferry trip to Sausalito for lunch. AGODA is also good well known accommodation booking engine.

Of course I've done research myself - I'm simply asking for tips eg "Oh yeah try xyz hotel, I stayed there on my trip, was really good"

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In Washington we stayed at the Hilton DoubleTree on Scott Circle. Price was good, hotel was clean and it's easy walking distance to the White House, Metro, etc. $5 cab ride from Constitution Avenue. On P st NW there is a whole Foods market (Supermarket) where you can get good quality food (served in a buffet type layout) that you can purchase and take back to the Hotel if you get sick of eating out.

In NY we stayed at the DoubleTree on W 29th St (between 6th & 7th Ave) in Chelsea. Close to Penn St Station, Metro station on 28th and a relatively safe area.

also in SFO take a ferry trip to Sausalito for lunch.

+1 to this suggestion, awesome place with a fantastic selection of dining options. I actually got a lift over from a friend but the ferry option sounds cool and something I'll certainly do next time I'm in SFO.

Recently stayed at Hilton Times Sq North..large rooms with small fridges on request no charge, includes breakfast and all day tea and coffee. Good central position. Supermarket close by and wine shop almost opposite

You've picked an expensive and popular time for NYC.

For hotels, check out the Beacon on the UWS. You will need to email them as they don't often show their 2 bedroom apartments online. They do have them though. Also, try Boutique Hotels | NYC Hotels | Washington DC Hotels | Affinia . They have several properties in Manhattan.

If you end up just looking for rooms, I like Quikbook.com | Best Hotel Deals from the Boutique Hotel Experts and Booking.com: 233,206 hotels worldwide. Book your hotel now! .

For hotel reviews - especially NYC - I like to read the reviews on TripAdvisor and the very comprehensive ones on Oyster.com: Expert Hotel Reviews and Undoctored Photos

Have fun! You arrive about a week after I leave. :)

I've only stayed in SFO and was in the Fisherman's Wharf area. Loved the vibe there, being on the waterfront, the views of the bridges and Alcatraz, and it was only about a $10 taxi into the Union Square area. I would recommend either place (Union Sq or Fisherman's Wharf). I stayed at the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf, and whilst it was in a good location, would not recommend it. There was another HI property around the corner, which I would investigate if I travelled there again, amongst other hotel chains.

Just picked this up, might be too late. We had 3 nights in NYC earlier this month, stayed in Holiday Inn in 31st west, adequate but small rooms, not that dear either.
We are in NYC again for 3 nights before going back to Australia. Staying at Crowne Plaza in Times Square in a king corner suite @ $ 270 per night including breakfast.

READ THE Posts on Priority rewards elsewhere on AFF. We have been here for almost a month and have amassed about 175,000 points... Enough for about a week's free accomodation in their chain of over 4,300 hotels world wide!!!!!

Book on line and get an extra 250 points per STAY, costs nothing to join and do it on line. Enjoy,

if you want another tip?... Use the Hop On Hop Off bus and do the tours you will see it all and hear the commentaries and don't forget to tip the guides get paid a pittance and the do a GREAT job

Another tip if you get the New York pass get some of your enties validated but don't use immediately as the validation lasts for a week or so on some and you can do those the next day eyc otherwise from experience you WILL run out of time...Enjoy !!!!
