Another one of my Tripadvisor reviews following my return from Perth.

Despite the number of bad reviews, I decided to book a deluxe room since most of the hotel has recently been refurbished and the price was low as I took advantage of the early bird discount.

The carpark must be the low light of my stay. As others on here have commented, it certainly looked like a war zone. Construction materials were everywhere.

The staff member checking me in was friendly and the process was efficient. So no problems there.

The room itself was modern looking and bright (except the bathroom door with the paint already peeling off). I believe it was one of the refurbished rooms. The view over Scarborough Beach on the balcony was stunning especially around sunset, however, other people could easily peek into others' rooms when standing on the balcony. One of the strange things about the room was the location of the light switch for the bathroom. It was located next to the front door and nowhere near the bathroom entry. Glad that I didn't have to find it in the dark. The aircon was also quite noisy despite having it on the lowest speed setting. The king bed was ok, but there were no king size pillows to match.

Other than the little things mentioned above and the carpark, the hotel certainly exceeded my expectations. It was a pleasant stay.

Loved the comment about the light switch. I still remember that from the last time I stayed there almost two decades ago.
This hotel lost its way for many years but I noticed it has had a paint job and some extensions on the ocean side.
It has reasonable surf right out in front of you.

It's my first time staying at the hotel. So the refurbishment obviously didn't involve the light switch.

Just had 2 nights in this hotel in a queen/queen ocean view room. The room was a good size as was the bathroom, although it had a SOB which I'm not a fan of, but it was a decent size and the shower water pressure was ok.

A few minuses - the balcony gave a great view of the beach and ocean, and it was private with no-one overlooking, but the lack of seating out there is a major downside IMO. We managed by putting the desk chair outside and turned the bin upside down with a cushion on top, but it was not the most comfortable arrangement.

I tried to phone the concierge and reception once, but neither answered. Part of the deal is 3 hours of free wifi per day and I had to phone for the access code, but as no one answered, I went down to reception to get the code. On returning to the room, I tried to connect to the complimentary free wifi, but the wifi address did not appear on my IPad or 2 IPhones, so having the access code was moot.

The pool area was small but nice, and although all the loungers were taken, we managed to get seating.

They charge $10 per day for parking under the building, but the gates lift when entering and leaving without putting a ticket in the machine, so a minor win there.

If they provided balcony furniture, I would definitely return to this hotel. I don't get why they remain unfurnished with such magnificent views.

I thought Scarborough Beach beautiful, but the eating options in walkable distance were limited and at the few that we went to, the service was average.

We take the olds to Plakka On The Beach for their all day breakfast which is about $15 and we all like that. Using the handicapped parking is a bonus for the parking just over the road when we take the olds there for their coffee fix and breakfast.

The lack of furniture outside is because it can blow off the balcony during storms.

We had breakfast at Plakka On The Beach. My bacon & egg roll was nice.

There was sufficient space inside the room for a couple of stackable or folding chairs and that would resolve the issue of the balcony space.

i stayed 2-5 november for melbourne cup long weekend, i shared this feed back with the GM and they had specifically removed the furniture from the balconies, executive lounge + observatory level because bloody idiots had been launching them off the side and caused considerable damage and was a potential liability dying to happen.

this was my main gripe about the hotel but after hearing first hand why they had to take drastic actions to remove the furniture, i kinda agreed.

scarborough has a beautiful beach, as this was my first trip to WA & Perth... i wasn't all that impressed to be honest - i wont be back in a hurry and if i really want to see a beach, i'll stick to the east coast.

I have read that Scarborough is a bit of a hangout for some young undesirables during peak season, but surely there is another resolution. I'd be happy to put down a decent bond during my stay, if that is what is required.

I've checked it off my list...
