I am Accor Plus Platinum. Due to the inability of hotels outside of AsiaPac to recognise the Platinum bit (it's a different code on the res system apparently) I want to downgrade to Accor Plat only - ie remove the Plus privileges (50% off food etc.).

I have however a large amount of points stashed in my account. Has anyone done this successfully and without drama? I won't renew Plus anyway when it's finished.

Thanks

Beware! I transferred involuntarily from +Plat to Le Club Gold; it was execrable and I immediately gave up on Accor after years with them.

I can't offer any suggestions, sorry, but in my experience Le Club (ie regular Accor Club, call centre in Paris) does not talk to, and does not want to know about any Accor+ issues. Accor+, once you are not with them, couldn't care less. You may as well be talking Starwood Vs Hilton as far as Accor Le Club and Accor+ is concerned.

If ALL of your points/stays are in the Accor+ system, and IF you have taken screen shots of EVERYTHING, then you might venture to call Accor+ and tell them you want to relinquish Accor+. BUT make very sure that you tell them up front, that you are retaining your Accor Plat status. If they cannot guarantee that, then don't proceed.

Get the name/ID number of everyone you talk to; take notes etc.

So if your’re Platinum but also Accor Plus, you are not recognised as such in Europe for example?

In my experience, yes, Accor plus Plat recognised around the world no problem. It was only when I exited Accor Plus and went back to Le Club that the poo hit the fan - lost points, stays etc and it was impossible to get the 2 to talk to each other to sort it out.

They do seem incompetent, but it worked in my favour for a recent stay. Their systems have real issues processing that you are no longer plus, or no longer plat etc. Just keep evidence of everything and keep hounding them.

The longer version is that I was Accor Plus Play via AMEX. AMEX parted ways with Accor so my Accor Plus Plat should have ended at the end of December last year.

A month or so before that, the web site said they will be comping me Plat for another year (my basic problem is that I failed to take a screen shot of that).

I made some bookings overseas for Feb/March and Plat perks were recognised during the stays. Web site still showing Plat.

The stays failed to post, so I called Plus. They said - there is a problem with your membership and I foolishly volunteered  that it may be because of AMEX etc etc. After a few minutes he said yes, that's it, we'll have to put you back across to Le Club.

What I didn't realise was that he was doing it there and then. In a few minutes he announced that I was back to Le Club and I'd have to call them for the missing stays. But, but, but! .... No dice; I was no longer with Plus so they didn't want to know.

Called Le Club and got some execrable (I assume) Frenchman somewhere. As far as he could see, I only made Gold a day or so prior (Gold?? Hang on ....) and how could he help me get points etc when my stay was before I was Le Club?

And on and on it went.

In the end I contacted the hotels direct. Sofitel Moorea credited points and stay immediately; after 3 e-mails Novotel Viticura Santiago still didn't. Unfortunately I've already reviewed them twice on Trip Advisor so I couldn't give 'em a rip there.

I used up my Accor points for a stay and haven't been back since.

The problem I have is because it's a different code in the Accor reservation system I don't flag on their pre-arrival lists.

- Have to fight for upgrades. Upgraded rooms sometimes already been pre-allocated to others.
- No welcome drink - have to ask for it
- No gift in room

All minor things but when you spend as much time as I do in Accor properties it irks a little.
