I just called up for a quote for a WASA SYD-BNE-SIN vv with SYD-BNE booked into X and the rest into Z. The agent I had wasn't fully sure of what the cancellation policy is for the mASA.

I was wondering if anyone here knows what the current cancellation policy and fees for an international WASA is.

Cheers in advance.

Edit: I was quoted 90k points + $911.67 if anyone was curious.

Never booked a WASA but have had some international FASAs and JASAs (all involving SIN as it happens). They were varied - IIRC one FASA had no cancel fee, the other ~AUD345. JASA cannot recall.
Best to ask when booking as they are not consistent.

ASA rules say the points can be refunded as points. Cash co-pay as cash, of course. But this is subject to the fare rules of the booking, for cancellation fees and such. You need to check the fare conditions. To get a points refund you must ring up to do the cancellation. Cancelling on line will convert the points into a really low cash amount - don't do this.

Any cancellation penalty is worth considering when factoring in the cash component of the original booking, if you think there is any chance of cancellation.

Getting points refunded is fine, and cancellation fee will come off cash refund portion. If your cash co-pay is not at least the amount of the cancellation fee, then some of that needs to come off the points as well. If you are lucky, then they will only convert enough points at the lousy refund rate to cover the difference, and give the rest back. If you are unlucky (which could be more than whichever call centre operator you get) they may insist on converting all points to cash, and just giving you the cash back.

My insurance against this it to make sure the cash payment on the original booking is not reduced below any potential cancellation fee

Considering a cash fare is $1426, not sure I'd be parting with that many points for a $500 saving!

Unrelated I know.

The cash fare for the days I'm looking at is $1719.67 and doesn't include BNE-SYD in Y+ and isn't cancellable either.

I totally agree, it's 90K and ~$450 for a FASA SYD-HKG

In that case... I think I can accommodate a change in plans!

Edit: Unfortunately the dates I'm looking at aren't available :(

Edit 2: Looks like I can grab a fare in P SYD-HKG and HKG-MEL-SYD in U for travel around what I'm looking for. Downside it's a 744 on the way over and A330 on the way back, and not to mention the 150k points + co-payment....
