Quickest way to upgrade to silver status

Both the Mrs and myself have velocity frequent flyer accounts . She has 180 status credits to my 120 but we have only just realised that it is/was possible to create a family pooling account and join our points into one.(would hve been 300 enabling silver status) However rules state as follows "Only Points and Status Credits earned from eligible flights and eligible transactions, which are flown or completed after a Family Pool has been created, will be transferred to a Beneficiary Account " This obviously eliminates us joining forces to become silver immediately so was wondering if there was any other alternatives out there to achieve the 70 points required for her to gain silver status other than booking flights ?

With no current special promotions being run by AMEX for SCs, flying be the only way.

OOL-SYD Rtn. with Flex Fares, both of you flying (& Family Pooling ofcourse) would get you over the line on the cheaper side of things if you want to do it quick - I'm assuming your BNE location is accurate - But then you have to weigh up is your flying patterns warrant you the need/want for Silver? Or will you be aiming for Gold?

Thanks for that .Looks like we could be heading up to Cairns next month so hopefully it should sort itself out. By the by if one chooses Silver can you not continue the upgrade to become Gold or do you have to wait until you have the 500 points first and bypass Silver straight to Gold ?

Once you get off Red, thing become interesting You now are working towards two things, maintaining Silver status & upgrading to Gold, which are treated separately:

Maintain Silver; Earn 200 Status Credits & 2 Eligible Sectors within your Membership Benefit Year (One year from the day you upgrade to your new status level)

Upgrade to Gold; With the 250 Status Credits you now have earned to reach Silver, earn another 250 Status Credits to take your balance to 500 & earn another 2 Eligible Sectors to take the count to 4, and provided none of your existing SCs or ESs expire before you reach the new targets within the 12 month rolling window, Gold status will be yours

Important to note while you can Family Pool Points & SCs, Eligible Sectors can't be pooled. While you don't have to skip Silver to reach Gold, some people do rack up the required SCs as a Red for Gold or Platinum with Family Pooling, but don't skip the status til the get the Eligible Sectors

Worth pointing out that your "year of silver" will reset to a "year of gold" once you get attain gold...Gold was a big milestone for me, as I wanted to be able to do the international upgrades.As for the quickest way to attain silver... Fly to a destination in the US during a double status promo

I like my (Air) NZ trips.
Have done about 3 or 4 or 5 now over the past about 3 years.
ADL-SYD-AKL in 767/777 earns me (in J) 100 VFF SC. Have also done it ADL-MEL-AKL. Will be doing WLG-SYD soon on 320.
Return gives me retaining VFF PS.
PremY will now also earn, good way to make up the difference, and save a bit of $ but still earn 45 VFF SC Au east coast to NZ on the wide bodied planes.
Works Deluxe on the narrow 320 earns 15 at the most even though the fares on the 320s are the most $.

One of the best value VFF SC earning opportunities is to Asia on SQ. You earn full Y SC on a flexi saver fare.

Flying PER-SIN-HKG-SIN-PER on SQ as a flexi saver earns 160SC, but costs less than AUD900 all in.

The biggest negative of this trip (versus say CX) is the KF Gold lounge in SIN.

Being a red or silver won't get you on the KF Gold SIN lounge anyway. But I do agree I don't bother going in to that lounge in SIN much prefer to stay outside looking around Changi.

Now VA gold or platinum will get you in to the HK SilverKris lounge which is great - another level altogether. When I was there I don't think I left the food area.

Why do you want to get silver? Theres next to no benefits of it and youll waste a lot more money trying to get it than its actually worth!
