I'm looking at flying to Europe with Etihad in business class soon and have been trying to work out the best way to book status credits wise. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but...

When I'm looking at Velocity's earning status credits page, I noticed the little * clause -

"When you purchase a single domestic or international short haul fare with Virgin Australia and there is a via point which does not involve a stopover, the Status Credits are awarded on the mileage from origin to destination, e.g. ABX-BNE via SYD will receive the Status Credits for the distance and fare type flown based on ABX-BNE."

So, I can understand that - flying SYD-AUH-LHR with no stop over... if I booked with VA, I'd earn 200 status credits for the one way flight due to the miles.

However I'm wanting to book with Etihad direct because it works out cheaper for me but, given the wording of 'when you purchase with VA, this is how it works' I am wondering how SCs are calculated when booking with Etihad? Does it still calculate as SYD-LHR and earn 200 SCs, or does it calculate per flight with SYD-AUH, 160SC + AUH-LHR, 120SC for a total of 280SC? (Or am I being overly hopeful here? ;))

Cheers for any clarification!
