Will end up with about 950 SC over what I needed this year to requalify, and partner is also Plat, and none of the kids fly much at all, and if they do, it is with Tiger or Jetstar or whatever is dirt cheapest. Grrr.

So have a Gold membership to pass on to someone, and will be darn close to the 1000 extra to get the Platinum.

Question - does the comped member get the 4 Upgrades, and the Hotel/Car options etc?

Velocity website seems silent on that below. I do recall reading that the comped membership DOES have a "soft landing'' the next year correct?

Not sure I really want to pay for more flights I do not really need, just to get this over the line for Plat, to give to someone, as the only real difference I can ever see these days is the 4 Upgrades a year and Hotel membership - one time.

Others here wil know from first hand experience what the deal is, I am sure!

Thanks in advance. :D

Yes, the comped member gets all platinum or gold benefits as if they had earned that status level in their own right. Have done this for my wife several times.

Well gee whiz @ozstamps - if you're giving a Gold membership away...........I'm a NR who lives vicariously through Mr Clipped's Plat Status. Let it be known throughout the land that I have never been north of Red. And that Gold would look reaaaal nice on me!

I always said you were the best friend I ever had..........:D

Was your travel self-funded, or paid by work? If the latter, I'd be gifting it to a colleague. Certainly I have many deserving colleagues for which I'd be quick to gift SG were it to come up.

For me it’s about 50/50, but I would not dream of giving it to a colleague even if it was 100% work funded. A colleague doesn’t have to bear the brunt of 4am wake ups, 8pm getting home and simply not being around the house as often as I would like. My wife does and she will soon be gifted with a Gold and probably a Platnium.

When the Platinum member gives away a Gold membership, does the 500 SC actually come off his account?

or is it just simply thus, he can give away one Gold/Platinum per membership year.

Yep, in your case I can understand that. I actually do have colleagues however who do bear those brunts ...but still fall short of SG. They are deserving. I've also got colleagues who insist on travelling J even if against company policy and even one of them whose 3 y.o. child could have made SG. Those types are undeserving. In the latter's case, we said goodbye to one whose continual flying on the company dime became almost legendary. Her staff sold her out in the end.

Fair enough. I don’t disagree.

Once you earn 500 or 1000 additional SC's, after you have re/qualified within your membership year, you earn the right to gift a gold or platinum level status. Nothing is taken off your account.

Sadly, all self funded.

Partner is also Plat, and not sure I want to spend $100s more on flights I do not need, just to earn a Plat membership to giveaway! Gold freebie is there already and will get close to Plat just on current bookings.

If Plat member gets the Hilton Diamond for a couple of years, an amazing bennie in my view. Had so many Suite Ugrades from $100 booked rooms in my first couple years I was gobsmacked!
