Hi there,
I'm hoping to receive some suggestions from members which may use dual voltage hair straighteners.

I know there are brands like GHD etc (which seem to be the brand favored by my straw poll of 3 stewardesses) but can anyone tell me why certain brands are better than others when travelling.

Even with GHD, can anybody recommend to me which of the GHD range might be most suitable for the frequent international flyer?

Cheers

I have a regular GHD IV styler that I travel with all the time. All of the stylers are dual voltage so no issues travelling with them. I've tried numerous cheaper brands in my time but IMHO the GHD brand is by far the best.
I'm saving up for an Eclipse as that's what my hairdresser uses and they are better still. Much faster as capable of doing thicker sections.

My girlfriend uses an InStyler, those ones which apparently aren't hot to touch but work a treat :)

I loved the old GHD but do not like the new ones as much since they changed manufacturers. My favourite now is Cloud 9 which is made by the original manufacturers of GHD's, Irons | Cloud Nine ®, I prefer the wide one compared to the narrower one as I find it takes less time to do my hair (long hair). I also like that you can choose the temperature yourself, its dual voltage and I've had no problems using it worldwide.

I'm a GHD IV kinda girl. It's reliable, you don't have to flick a switch to change voltage - just plug it in (via adaptor) and away you go. I've tried the cheaper ones, but I didn't think they worked as well. I don't think the temp difference makes that much difference, but that's just me and my hair.

I'm with Princess Fiona though, when this one dies (and they do eventually die) I'll go to an Eclipse.

And I like a narrow one, since I like to put a little curl in my hair from time-to-time.

I'd try a few instore first and see which one suits your hair the most - they are an awesome investment. And the only other thing that would be worthwhile is a heatproof bag to store it in (in case you're packing in a hurry) but even this can be solved with a wet facewasher...

Ditto Mole I've now got the Cloud 9 replacing my GHD's

I'm keen to find out about the Eclipse & what that has over the Cloud 9's.

My wife had a GHD she told me it was no good (it was probably fine)... so I bought her a Cloud 9 I think it is.

She told me it was like going from J to F!

I'm intrigued. I know these products exist but I've never used one. Am I really missing something? I have fairly fine shoulder length straight hair and I'm a quick blow dry and go kinda gal. What advantage if any would I get from one of these?

I know i can't live without my hair straightner, its the first thing that goes in my bag... Then the shaver etc... :)

I'm with you PF.
My kids gave me my GHD for my birthday last year and I love it.
I also wouldn't travel without my generic heat resistant case. It's perfect for last minute packing after doing my hair.

I have the straightest hair you can imagine and use the GHD to add body. Heat resistant case is awesome, in fact it is almost a necessity.

For quality and less chance of breaking down, Cloud Nine by a long shot. They're made in the Korean factory where GHD's were originally made before they moved the manufacturing to China.

Did the heat resistant case come with the GHD's or did you buy it separately?

I've built a website for the DIY Business Class traveller and I included a page on Cool Travel Accessories.......but soon realised the items were mainly blokey gadgets.
So I've been keen to add more items for the female FF and it became apparent that I needed to get up to speed on hair straighteners. I'll add both the Eclipse and Cloud 9 links.

Are there any other female-specific travel accessories that are indispensable?

Many ladies have recommended the following to me:

Longchamp Le Pliage Folding Shoulder bag - NYLON | Longchamp International

Is it really that good?

No idea about the longchamp bag. I just use a neverfull (LV).

However, thanks for including what women find to be useful in business travel! Some of us business travellers AND women. All at the same time! :)

Yes I have two in black and red. The red's been stolen by my teenage daughter so I'm going to buy another at T3 LHR next month. Very handy to pack, can go from beach to appointment with it. The tote bag with the longer handles is the best.

I picked up a brilliant clear zip-lock bag on my trip to the US recently

And my other fave travel accessory is my Babyliss travel hairdryer which I never leave home without

(I have no affiliation with this website but have purchased from them before )

I recently changed my travel toiletries bag from a La Pochette to a Ricardo organizer

Fits everything including the hairdryer inside.

Maybe I'll have to try a longchamp bag - the zip does seem like a much better idea!
