What's the current 'best practice' if departing ADL on Qatar, in respect of lounges? Destination .... MEL! before heading to DOH.

I gather the new lounge airside is a 'no' and QR will direct you to the VA domestic lounge. What's airside now, if you don't use the lounge there?

In the meantime, I'll be happy to plonk down in the OneWorld landside lounge at ADL domestic

Yes QR don’t use the PP airside lounge at ADL and yes the check in staff will direct you to the VA lounge but obviously you can use either the VA or QF lounge. The bonus with the VA lounge is that it’s literally a 1 min walk to departures and you are through in no time whereas QF is a bit longer walk but still fine.
Once you get through immigration and head upstairs there is a restaurant/cafe up there now

Yes, I am going to do the absurd thing of carrying the printed lounge access rules with me, plus my OW Emerald (QFF Plat) physical card

When I flew ADL-AKL with QR it was the late night service and QF lounge was shut. VA lounge staff told me that QF refused to stay open for the QR flight.
My understanding now is that you will be directed to the VA lounge and if you have QF status you can enter the QF lounge but I’ve heard that QR J pax without status are being denied entry to the QF lounge. I don’t know if this is still happening

Oneworld site for ADL. But the OW site is not always accurate.
Actual practise can be different. The ever present "Exceptions may apply. Eligibility subject to the oneworld Lounge Access Policy.".

Yep, I've printed out the exclusions page on the OneWorld Lounge Access Policy site as well.

I'm on the ADL-MEL-DOH tag flight and intend to front up at the QF Flounge at MEL for a nice lunch. That will be interesting , but should be straightforward, as no VA lounge.

When we came back AKL-ADL on QR we were given a pass to the Strata lounge and directed there but I decided we would check out the QF F lounge. The initial lounge dragon said no as “Qatar isn’t a partner” to which I asked to see the manager who said we could enter lounge but was quite gruff about it and snidely commented that Qatar passengers should be using the Strata lounge and that as they aren’t partners their flight numbers wouldn’t be displayed on the monitors and no boarding calls would be made for them and that if we wanted that we should leave. In the end we only stayed 10 minutes as the F and J lounge was garbage and the Strata lounge was streets ahead in every way

QFF Plat card , seeking to enter a QF lounge on a OneWorld flight . I've even printed out the bottom of the access rules, which has the QR logo next to the QF one.

So I rocked up this morning to the QF ADL lounge with my QR J BP. Lounge lady seemed a bit puzzled, asked a colleague. He said only admitted if OneWorld Emerald and that QR send people to the Virgin lounge. I knew the first bit was incorrect (and I had the lounge access rules in my pocket) but I simply smiled and hauled out my physical QFF Plat card and I was admitted.

Overall tenor pleasant but clearly thought I was taking advantage ( which I was).
