Hi gang,

Just wondering about QF7.
Is it normally full? Do they actually sell all seats on the plane or is capacity reduced due to the distance?

Up in the air whether it would be better to go via LAX or DFW to SEA. A higher likelyhood of an empty seat next to me would tip the scales.
I'll be in y.

I may just leave it to chance and let the travel co-ordinator decide as I'm struggling to make up my mind.

I believe QF7 is heavily restricted on pax due to the long length of the sector.

I hope so at least, as I'm flying it real soon (and slumming it in cargo ). Here's hoping for a Y+ bump, although i'm not expecting it.

From memory it was restricted, but not that heavily restricted.

So long as I have an empty seat next to me, my sleeping tablets will do enough to see me through the hell flight (of course, a beep at the gate would be even more welcome!).

Going through an old thread I found this, posted by serfty.

Since the only 744 Qantas can effectively employ for this route is the 744ER and Qantas only have these in the "Pacific (Hi J) Configuration", the above is the only 744 layout available on this route at the moment.

So it's a loss of 27 seats at the most (~10%).

With a new config that would be 84 unused seats I think.

ISTR Very little restriction on QF7, but significant on QF8.

ISTR ~ 10% less than capacity for sale on QF8, but virtually full capacity on QF7 (based on 4 class 744ER). Not sure if/how the numbers have changed as the 744ERs get refitted.

Same here and I am wondering what the chances are in getting a middle seat blocked for a WP and SG passengers travelling together (if we don't get an upgrade that is!)

Very rarely is it restricted on the QF7 - so you chances of a spare seat aren't as good. The QF8 on the other hand is more chance.
