We're sitting on the Tarmac about to be towed back to the terminal and could be in for a long night...
Tail engine U/S and A/C failed, getting hot and other two engines can't cut it apparently.

That is terrible. What are the alternatives? Is that the last flight of the night this time of the year?

Hope it is not the aircraft I came up on earlier although that may have gone back as QF555.

That's interesting... An APU failure shouldn't really cause any major issues once the engines are started and pumping cool air into the cabin. Generally would only be a drama on a stupidly hot day where the plane gets too warm at the gate for passengers to be allowed on.

There's still QF559, but that left 20mins before your post... doubt the OP would've made it.

Tech issues fixed on the Tarmac and off we went. Was getting steamy for a while there, and not in a good way!

Just arrived safely in SYD.

Oh and apparently it flew 'all day' with the tail engine u/s... as was 'approved'...

Good to hear you got to SYD.

As it flew all day it would show you that it necessarily isn't a big issue.

Yes sure re: tail, but this problem was something else, although apparently related.

Anyway only ended up 10 mins late after all that.

Is that all? You sat on tarmac, towed back to terminal, given green light by engineering, taxiing back out and only 10 minutes late? How do I get me one of those flights? :p

We were ~5-10 minutes late coming in to BNE yesterday afternoon and had no issues what so ever apart from being asked to hold over Gold Coast for ~5 minutes. On Friday with VA we were ~25 minutes from OOL-SYD.

And by definition neither of you were "late" last night!
A flight arrival is counted as "on time" if it arrived at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time shown in the carriers' schedule

When I posted we were advised we were being towed back, in the end, engineering fixed it on the apron and we continued on.

I knew something was wrong as the captain revved the engines about 10 times and we went nowhere.

Last time this happened to me, it was a deplane and find another aircraft type deal, so I'm thankful this was a quick fix as I would have missed the last flight.

They can fudge the statistics anyway they like but it doesnt the change fact that if you are 15 minutes late then you are 15 minutes late.

And according to flightstats we were only 3 minutes late which is more than acceptable.
