Hi,

I have flights booked on QF near the end of the year: HBA-MEL-LAX and MIA(AA) - LAX -MEL (via AKL) -HBA. I foolishly put both of our seating requests as Aisle, so we have ended up being allocated seats all across the cabin away from each other.

Is this sytem computerised or did someone at Qantas think it would be funny to put us at either ends of the cabin? Can the QF call centre fix this up for us or do we do it on the day we fly? Can you request exit rows early or only on the day with QF flights?

Also, we asked to upgrade out final domestic flight to Business but were told there were no upgrade seats, do QF release more upgrade seats over time or have we missed out even though the flight is on Xmas Eve night - all I want is to have a shower in QC in MEL after the marathon MIA-LAX-MEL flights!

Sorry for the ramble but any info you guys have would be great, especially if I have to do battle with the call centre - I've found that they sometimes don't know their own policies!

Cheers,

Alex

hahaha, yes its a computer system, if you have separate booking it will raet you differently and seat you differently, if your one one ticket it will keep you together.

Being domestic i don't think you can request seats until the day however you can ring up and maybe have the bookings linked so you can sit together by default selection.

You can request upgrades by logging in on the web site, And yes QF do release more seats at a later date if whatever logic they use says its a good idea.

Believe it or not Xmas eve night is not as quiet as you may expect.

Thanks Evan,

The tickets are all linked (both PAX on same reservation)- we bought HBA-LAX return online and rang up and added MIA-LAX-HBA later, they reissued the etix and its all one reservation.

So what are my chances of ringing up QF and asking them to reaasign those seats just so we are sitting together? I know that QF travel have reserved seats together before so I'm guessing they can do it over the phone (hopefully!).

I might try my luck over the phone (try the Ol' "Im over 6ft please can i have an exit row?" trick:)) or try it at 6am on the day we leave from HBA!

Very true on Xmas eve, I suppose I'm not going to be the only one getting home just in time for Xmas!

Cheers,

Alex

Qantas is open 24 hours per day - call them re preassigned seats and they will move you together I'm sure.

I'not sure that 2 reservations can ever be put into one - whilst they may be linked, they are still 2 separate reservations.

thanks Mel, I'll give them a try later on anf hopefully they can sort me out!

I'm not sure exactly what they did, but we bought the tix online initally and then changed our minds and wanted to add MIA on the return journey. They charged us $110 worth of fees each (a change fee and a telephone reservation fee) and the fare diff which was only $33.10 each (they got a cheaper fare out on this new itinerary) and it came through as new eticket numbers and under my bookings of QF site it's all under 1 booking, likewise with Amadeus check my trip. Not 100% what the exact case is but we can check our bags home from MIA (excepting Customs in MEL of course:D)

Cheers,

Alex

I talked to QF call centre and the lady was very helpful, she explained that the exit rows seats are allocated on the day as the FA and check in staff need to see you can move the exit. We have a 6am start in HBA so fingers crossed they can get us the exit row seats at that time!

We were able to reallocate the seats so that on the A380 we have 64B/C from memory so it puts us a row in front of the exit (no seats behind us), so will be hoping we can nab the exit row!

We have a 738 from MIA-LAX so didn't really matter where we were on that one, but we got row 10.

As for out 744 from LAX-AKL-MEL we have requested one of the twosomes at the back of the 744, but we have to confirm this on check in at MIA (nice early check in by AA so hopefullt exit rows if were lucky!).

Hoping again that QF release more award seats so we can upgrade to J on return flight from MEL-HBA only for that shower at QP after the longhaul!

Can't wait for my 1st A380 flight! Better not get replaced on the day:)

Have you had the trip to US yet?
I have also turned up at airport early for connecting flight. At airport asked for emergency exit seat from Syd to LHR. I was told I would have to wait until I got to Syd, where i was informed that all exit row seats had been allocated. I asked in lounge in HKG what the story was. Woman in lounge basically said firt check in hould have been able to alocate exit row for entire trip and changed my seat for emegency exit on to London.
So if you get told in HBA you cant get seat allocation util MEL, ask them to recheck their policy
Good luck with trip

Thanks Kiwi!

I'm not flying until November so I'll be sure too keep what you have said in mind, I've been able to ask for my seat allocation at HBA before (Dom not Intl..., but whilst I'd like an exit/bulkhead row I'm happy with an aisle if thats all I can get! I used to be pro window but on Longhaul give me an aisle any day now!
