Received letter in the post dated 26 October advising any transfers I make from credit or debit cards to Qantas points during November will receive the following bonus:

Transfer 1 million plus QF points = 30% more QF points;

Transfer 350K to 999,999 QF points = 25% QF points bonus;

Transfer up to 349,999 points = 15% QF points bonus.

Fine print on back of letter stated I had been targetted after sending some discretionary points QF's way in early September.

Have zero status in QF flying on points. Anyone looking to transfer discretionary points to QF, suggest they transfer a smallish six figure amount first and wait a month or so to see if QF takes the bait.

I would suggest doing one's sums and sending the points somewhere better rather than wasting even a smallish six figure amount. Even at 30%, there are much better options.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Received this and the velocity/Amex deals today. QF points can be extremely good value when used the right way, but 1m points worth? Nope

You will now get these letters 'for life'. I transferred a chunk of points from Amex Ascent Premium back in 2012 and have been getting them ever since.

Thanks, good to know that will likely continue to get these offers.

Agree QFF often does not provide good value and has been one of my least used FF schemes receiving 12% of my points redemptions. AsiaMiles is normally a clear winner when flying on CX or QF metal except for short domestic flights up to SYD-ADL distance being 16K V 20K for J flights.

Have found though QFF to have a purpose since linking up with EK using their metal when SQ, CX or EY don't have direct Euro flights. Using EK for next years trip to Budapest has enabled one stop flights from AKL and SYD. With a daughter ensconced in Tauranga, the EK 380 across the ditch has been getting a workout with J on the NZ wide body using VA points difficult to score.

I've received another, and better, offer from Qantas so soon after the expiration of the last one. The email says it is limited to the recipients of this email. Transfer any number of points between now and December 19 and receive a bonus of 30% on all points.

I also got a followup e-mail, having just transferred some points under the previous offer: I am being offered a 40% bonus with no minimum! Too bad I've got no more points to transfer...

Wow, a 40% bonus is fairly solid. I got the offer but only for 30%. Don't have any cards that warehouse QF points any more so it's all moot.

Interesting. Presumably that is to reduce criticism that QF "hoodwinked" some into accepting an offer that was immediately bettered. But as you say, if you have no more points to transfer....

i transferred points under the last 2 offers and received the 40% deal today. Seriously Qantas - go **** yourself. Offering a bonus then immediately bettering it after transferring is poor form.

For anyone interested there are only 3 good uses for QF points of which none involve international premium cabin travel.

Also, QF has effectively now trained me, and hopefully others, that unless there's a 40% deal - don't transfer anything.

For last minute premium cabin travel to asia, Krisflyer remains better value than a QF even without a bonus.

And finally, remember folks, always have a plan to use the points before transferring.

So you would consider 92,000 points and AUD58.00 taxes (HKD340) poor value for a J class award one way on CX HKG/YVR?

I guess yes given that for 55K Alaska Miles plus similar taxes you could pretty much do a one way J award ex AU via HKG (with a stopover) to North America.

Answered your own question :p
HKG redemptions are not exactly like-for-like as taxes are regulated.

I received the up to 30% bonus too. Won't be transferring any.
