I’m arriving on a QF international flight in the early morning then departing same day in the evening. Around a 12 hour lay over in sydney.

Should I re check my bag in at the QF domestic connections counter just as clear immigration and customs? Or should I bring it with me during the day in Sydney, and check it in in the evening?

I don’t mind bringing my suitcase with me.

How reliable is checking in bags at the international airport in Sydney for a domestic flight to Perth in the evening. All flights on QF and on the one ticket.

It’s very reliable but isn’t there a time restriction for checking bags at the domestic transfer? Something like T-6 hours?

In Au you clear immi and Customs at first point of entry.
Ie Syd int terminal.
No choice with that.
Then open zone, then walk to bus pick up to SYD dom terminal.
From domestic walk out and then private shuttle to city.
Then domestic security screening in afternoon.

Yes there is a time restriction. Found out in BNE earlier this year. Waited until T-6 hours to check-in bag and golf clubs as I didn't want to take them to city and back again.

If you don't mind paying, there are some day use hotel rooms around the suburbs of Sydney, so that you can freshen up, drop off bag, and then have a look around, then freshen for the flight to Perth.
Taxi from the hotel to the airport, 1.5 hours prior should be ok with taxi.
Not cheap, but its a good way to do it, seeing that JohnK has mentioned that Sydney airport does not have all day care of bags in the domestic plane holding section.
Thought that they would have all day check in for domestic flights at Sydney, but turns out not.
In the OP's case, after what JohnK has mentioned, maybe forget about the T1 to T3 QF bus, and just get to day use hotel ASAP.

I have no connection with the website, but have day use room at hotels before, both in MEL and SYD, not bad, not cheap either, but its a good way to store bag between flights.
Not sure if bag storage lockers are still available at SYD domestic these days, if you (OP) don't want to pay for day use hotel room, maybe look into if either terminals still have storage lockers.
If you lug your suitcase, it can stop you doing some activities.
EDIT: turns out that Sydney Airport still has lockers, at T3.

I have done that one, the trouble with it is that, even if you book in for a 9am slot to the room, they have told me, "your room is not ready yet"!
So I guess it a bit of a rob me sort of thing, as if I pay for 5 hours from 9am, to get to SYDd by 3 for a 4.30pm flight, me paying a bit for for a room I can't access, is a disadvantage to me.
I haven't tried other day use hotels, mind you, that Rydges Sydney Airport is a great idea (hotel), but your room is not ready yet, is a disadvantage.
Other hotels in the suburbs might have you into the room by 9am, have you put down bags, have a shower, shave, and then into the city to have a look see and then back to hotel and uber/hotel to SYDd T2/T3.
Also the Rydges Sydney Airport is a tad pricey, $279 for a nightly rate, I think I paid about $170 or so for that day use, yes, I am a coward and don't dare to shower in Sydney airport showers itself!
Up at 2.30am to get the Supershuttle in CHC to the airport, then first QF flight out of CHC to SYD, a sleep and a shower is good thing before the next flight run.
Sorry for the waffle.
