Hi troops,

Been a while since I last booked an award flight, but I'm having serious problems getting direct (or direct with a tech stop) flights for LHR/LAX/DFW-SYD in the second half of September/October.

Notwithstanding school holidays towards the latter half of this period, for the life of me I cannot find any classic availability. (I'm a SG by the way).

What are my options? Any other experiences with poor Y award availability lately?

Cheers

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Try some Any Seat Awards.

Classic Awards are zip, but I just tried LHR-SYD on YASA one-way dep 30 Sep, and it's 112k all-in or 64k (Classic) + GBP 340. Yeah, high taxes/charges - about GBP 100 over the estimated taxes/charges amount for the same sector but paid as a cash fare - but that is an option if you want to. Plus, you will get some of those points back ("rebated" if you will) once you fly the sector. (In fact, the rebate almost makes up for the ASA "overcharge" based on the cash booking, which almost evens out to a normal Classic).

I didn't exhaustively check all the options you mentioned, but I did check the Classics like you and surprised to find absolutely zip for a 30 day period.

Not an option unfortunately as I'm on a OneWorld Award via EZE

Pretty p*** poor effort from QF considering there's supposed to be additional inventory available for SG/WP!

You mean you are trying to create a oneworld award via EZE? (Not that you are already on one and need to change around)

No idea why Classics have all zeroed out - I am a WP so this is strange and must be a capacity thing. Although yes it could be some nut has forgotten to release some seats.

Even around that period I only see a peppering of seats (some premium, very little Economy). Unless there are a lot of UK and US residents taking extended holidays, can't explain why no inventory. Ditto back to the Australian population. I mean, sure, it is possible, but just freakish.

Were it me as a WP I'd be calling QF Premium and putting in requests (coughing up the 3,500 or 6,000 point charge in the process, but worth it if desperate). As a SG you might not be entitled to the same benefit.
