QF Cancelled Flight, re-route options.

So I have a bit of a problem.

QF has decided to cancel my flight CBR-SYD next week and moved me from a 734 to a DH8C. *shudder* I picked the flight because it was a jet and allowed me to tick off the 734 off my list of QF aircraft I've flown. (I've already done the DH8C)

Now that my plans have been ruined is there any way I can get routed through MEL (ie CBR-MEL-SYD) so I can still fly the 734? Because I'm not looking forward to the (somehow...) pre-allocated 12C on the Dash-8...

The way I see it is I've got 3 options:

1. Suck it up and take the move given to me by QF
2. Try and somehow get re-routed to CBR-MEL-SYD
3. Cancel and fork out the $40 extra to fly on a VA E90 (also another plane I want to tick off my list)

I don't mind the Dash-8 if forced onto one but was looking forward to flying on a QF 734 for once (*shock, horror!* You would also think I would've learned a lesson after being cramped into a AS 734... but my need to complete lists is just too compelling lol)

I don't like the Dash 8s and avoid them whenever I can. If I really must fly on one, then so be it but not by choice. I just don't like the sound of the props. I know a lot of people prefer them to the 734 but not me. Maybe two hours back from Brisbane on one did me in!
Probably little chance for the OP to get a re-routing based on the distance CBR-SYD.

Actually I bit the bullet and managed to get a re-route CBR-MEL-SYD!
Still waiting on the new itinerary to come through to my email but it has been updated in MMB.

Really - you did have to pay more I assume?? Or did you weep a lot on the phone about not being able to do a Dash?

Didn't have to pay an extra cent (well at least they didn't mention anything about it)

Just called them up and said I booked the flight because it was on a 737 compared to a Dash8 is there any chance I can get rerouted through MEL to stay on jets. No sob story required, just an inquiry to see if it was possible, otherwise I would've taken the Dash8 without much grumble. The CSA on the line was very nice, understood that some people preferred jets (I just wanted to fly on a 734) and even made suggestions to accommodate the mode of transport from SYD airport home (chauffeur service by busy parents lol). I think I'll pop onto the feedback site and give a glowing review of the service I got this evening. Miles apart from VA and many many miles on top of JQ (IME anyway).

You can all call me crazy as well. Managed to get a 2 hour 50min layover in MEL to check the airport out and fly on a 763>738

You want to look at the MEL airport for 2 hours and 50 minutes........... I wonder if you are on the right site
Maybe someone can guest you into a lounge for some of that time if you post your flight details in the December thread.

I'm already an SG so I've got access to QP.

Yes you are right, I think it is at least 15 years since I wanted to "look" at the airport. You are lucky you still want to and are not 'over it' yet.

I cant stand the Dash 8, I prefer the Q400 but the smaller one feels "heavy" in the sky. Unfortunately we only get turboprops out my way MOV.

If time is not a concern, then "bonus". Extra SC's and 1000 FF points. Why fly direct when you can connect....
