Hi Everyone,

Another 1st world problem...

Going on a family holiday in J to Europe and asia. (BNE-xHKG-xLHR-PRG//MUN-LHR/LHR-SIN/SIN-BNE)
It is going to be approx 560 QF status credit and keen to get status for the non-regular flyers in the group. Will be 140 short of gold. Probably not interested in a status run.

Should I
1. Suck it up. They don't fly that regularly anyway (2 or 3 times a year)
2. Look at the AA program?
3. Look at the BA program?

Appreciate which program would you recommend?

Last time we had SQ, LX flights and went to Gold with A3 which almost lasted 3yrs and was extremely handy.
(Insert funny story how Mr 9yr old put the reception dragons on the back foot in the SQ SIN lounge while transiting)

Thanks.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you can source a UK address, according to the Tier point calculator, I would recommend the non-regular flyers join BAEC. This trip appears to yield 660 TPs which is enough to qualify for BAEC Silver (OWS) which is pretty good for a single trip. IIRC, there was also a double or triple Avios offer floating around which could provide enough points for a decent future redemption.

I'd have two suggestions:

Have a look at the American Airlines status challenge. BA and QF flights do count towards the challenge. (As an aside, AA miles are also pretty good value.)

Do you need to do 4 trips on AA to get OWS on the program?

Thanks.

Generally, yes. But I don't believe that restriction applies to the status challenge.

Correct. Challenge can be completed without ever stepping foot on AA. Retaining status was different but even that has changed with the new rules.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. It is probably easier for BAEC in this case. I have a UK address to leverage but I might get someone to try the austria trick.
Select austria as the country and it does get routed to Australia!

Cheers.
