QF Award in Y and J on QF and JQ

Hey there! I've booked an award ticket PER-SYD overnight in J (QF), SYD-CNS following morning in Y (QF), CNS-KIX the same afternoon in 'J' (JQ).
I believe my overall ticket is a 'business reward', but with the SYD-CNS sector in Y due to no availability.

Three quick questions:
1) If availability in J opens up on SYD-CNS, can I call up and ask to change from Y to J for no extra cost (change fees, fare difference etc)?
2) Can QF staff in Perth check my luggage all the way to Osaka?

1) pretty sure the answer is no, based on you accepting what was offered as is.
2) not too sure, but I suspect the answer will be no due to the overnight, even if it is technically not a stopover. Basically they probably view holding bags over night to be a security/safety issue.

Thanks for your reply! Just to clarify, I'm flying overnight from PER-SYD, arriving 6:15am. Then I'm going SYD-CNS and CNS-KIX same day (as in, not leaving the airport at all, and baggage won't be kept overnight)

that would be no problem then. I wrongly assumed you had an overnight in Sydney. [-]They should be able to check through to Cairns. CNS-KIX is jetstar, I think, so you'll have to collect and recheck luggage there.[/-]

The fare basis on your flight coupon SYD/CNS would have to be 'UBP' not 'XBP' plus you would need to be waitlisted in U class so that there is something pending that can be actioned by the system.

Can you call up QF and ask them what the fare basis is on the SYD/CNS sector ie XBP od UBP. I get where you're coming from but if the fare basis is XBP it's just like asking for a free upgrade ftom Y to J.

I would see the staff at the SYD J Lounge on arrival from PER and see if there's anything they can do similar to when they process domestic upgrade requests in the lounge.

Yes they should be able to tag your bags through to KIX as it's QF dom to JQi on the same ticket.

Thanks for that tip! I called up and yes, I'm on UBP and can change to J without additional fees. Right now there is 1 available seat (booking for 2 passengers), so the agent put in a request to get 2 award seats and I'll find out on Tuesday if it's granted. If not, I can split the booking and confirm one seat, and chase up another in the future.
