Hi All

Im looking to book JFK-LHR-CDG / ORY-MAD-JFK using QFF points for travel in June - all on the same ticket.

Question is what baggae limits will I be allowed?
JFK-LHR on AA;
LHR-CDG on BA;
other legs on IB.

Im WP / OWE so baggage on AA is not a problem (and never has been when I have flown with them :D).

Question: how tight will BA be about the second leg? I intend to travel with two bags each inside 23kg. I aint forking out 50 quid for another bag. SNCF would solve that problem.

BA Website reads:
If you have purchased a ticket which includes travel on another airline, the British Airways baggage allowance may be more generous and you could be charged for extra baggage by the onward carrier.
BAs policy is not as generous as AAs.

Allowances for
Brazil, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria
Connecting journeys between India and USA, Bermuda, Canada

World Traveller Two standard-sized bags
What is defined as a connecting journey?

Reading IBs policy:

Travelling on connecting flights and/or with another airline.

Remember that each airline that operates a flight sets the free baggage allowance that passengers can take on its flights without any charge and in line with its weight, dimensions and content limitations and the conditions of each airline. Details about the airline that is operating your flight are available at bookings management. Check with the operator airline to confirm your free baggage allowance and other restrictions.
  • The most beneficial free baggage allowance for the customer will apply to direct Iberia flights (origin – final destination) with several connecting routes. If you have bought different tickets, each free baggage allowance will be apply separately to each ticket.
  • If you are travelling on a code share flight, i.e., if your flight number corresponds to the IB-5000 or IB-7000 series, the baggage regulations of the airline operating this flight will apply.
  • If your ticket includes Iberia flights or flights by another airline, the free baggage allowance of the first company operating the first route will apply. If it is Iberia, the first airline will apply the free baggage allowance that appears on the ticket. If you have bought separate tickets and for different airlines, the free baggage allowance of the corresponding operator airline will apply to each ticket.
  • Additional free baggage allowances offered by each airline will only be valid for flights by that airline.
So the AA policy would apply on IB flights as that is the first carrier?

Does Emerald status count for anything with either of these airlines?

O/T I looked at a few different routes on this trip:

AA JFK-LHR is x points + 18.54 USD taxes/charges.
Their return charge was similary priced ex LHR (not too expensive).
ANY flight on BA becomes in excess of 150USD one way and up to 400USD (or more) for JFK-LHR-JFK return. Why???? Why such a rip off?
I was looking at the LCY-SHN-JFK A318 flight, but taxes added to 300GBP plus.
:?:
?

Taxes for the AA/BA/IB flights are around 350 USD.

Thanks for your assistance.

Happy Flying.

Regards

David
