A question about the checked baggage allowance when transferring between QF/AA. I have a ticket SYD-LAX-DFW-FLL. All sectors are on the same day, on the same ticket. In the baggage allowance section of the ticket (last column) it says 2PCS under the QF flight segments and NIL under the AA.

Will I get the 2PCS QF allowance on all sectors? Or will I get a nasty surprise at the airport when checking in and told I have to pay extra for the AA baggage?

Thks!

You will get the 2 pieces all the way through as AA don't charge baggage for international pax.

Any extra allowance from QF due to status isn't applicable on AA. That said if your bags are checked all the way through into the US then you shouldn't have any issues with AA in any event.

While that's correct in that the Qantas benefits don't translate directly to AA benefits, AA waive the checked baggage fees and allow up to 2 bags to be checked for free for Oneworld Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald pax along with other pax on the same booking.

The OP's profile says Qantas Silver (ie: Oneworld Ruby) - so OP you will be fine, even if you have a domestic AA flight that's booked separately as long as your Qantas FF number is on the booking.

For information on the baggage allowance, check here. The benefit is listed under the "Exceptions" link.

I concur. I just flew SFO-LAX on an "O" fare as a separate itinerary (ie rock bottom fare) and got my 2 pieces for free due to status. Whichever way you go you should be fine as a oneworld ruby or greater.

If only Admirals Club would give free drinks as well then I would be very happy

Well it's funny you mention that - they are from October 1.

Having said that, it doesn't include any premium spirits/wines, so I'm hoping they still give out chits :)

I agree you should get 2 bags checked for free. I have a QF/AA trip to SF in November, and although I have no QFF status, my itinerary is showing checked baggage of 2 pieces for both the QF (MEL - LAX) and AA (LAX - SFO) segments. Like yourself, I am on an O-class ticket and paid a very low fare. Enjoy your trip.

2 Free bags free for me with AA as QP Silver / OW Ruby. Travel September 2010.

I took a printout of the link in Ewing's post in case there was an issue. There wasnt, even when one of my bags was over the 23kg limit (just).

What you dont get is any "extra" allowance over the standard 2pcs that you may get on QF due to status.

Thank god. 8.50-9.50USD glasses of wine are a wee bit of a rip-off.

If you get into The AC due to QFF status/QP then those glasses of wine should cost $1 tip only.Should be given 2 coupons on entry and you can go back to desk for more.

Yes, that's what I meant :)

Also, even without OW status, you will still get two free bags with AA as an international passenger, even if you buy a cheap AA O fare on a separate ticket.

Just carry a copy of the international itinerary with you. (not that this applies to the OP, just as an aside. )

Agree on the NO STATUS. We are only Bronze QFF & flew on an O class International ticket in January LA -Seattle - NY-LV-LA with AA & at no stage did we pay for our checked baggage nor the year before that on different sectors across USA. So status does not come into it as long as you are on an Internatiinal ticket for all sectors of the journey not separate tickets for each sector. Some terminals had auto checkin with baggage but we could not check in that way due to not paying the baggage fee so we were directed to line up at the counter. A few times we were asked why we were not paying the fee until we showed them our ticket.
