Hi all,

Planning a trip around June and was looking for advice/recommendations on whether people would choose the QF A330 or EK A380 in business class from Singapore to Melbourne. EK comes out $200 more but not fussed about that. Both flights are red-eyes so importance would be a comfy seat/bed.

This flight will form an attempt to re-qualify for Gold status and I can get a QF flight number on the EK metal. TIA.

EK! With Qantas you could end up with angled MK1 skybeds, and the food is a real disappointment these days. EK guaranteed flat bed.

If evenly priced I'd go for Emirates. With the price difference even though you said it doesn't fuss you, I'd go for Qantas.

Basically, Emirates is good but variable. I slightly rate higher, but given the chance of variation with either, I'd take the savings.

QF over EK for me, not a big fan of the EK fake wood and feel the window seats are quite cramped, also legroom when sitting is restricted

I really like my tail cameras and the option to visit the bar on the A380. Have to agree though quite hard to justify a $200 difference. I'd be peeved if I didn't get the lie flat refurbed A330 though. (I'm not 100% sure if it's 100% complete or 1 or 2 to go?).

To the best of my knowledge there are only two unrefurbished A330 in the Qantas fleet and they are now busy flying SYD/PEK.
The likelihood of getting an unrebfurbished A330 SIN/MEL is therefore remote.
Whether you fly J on the A380 or the A330 you should have a good flight.
I would prefer having a drink brought to me on the A330 than having to walk to the bar to order one. And saving $200 :)

I've always seen the bar on the A380 as an extra option and found crew still as willing as ever to bring a drink to my seat.
Is that not general experience?

Unfortunately this might not be the case. 2 unrefurbished aircraft running alternatively between PEK and SIN (QF 5/6) ex SYD. The chances of an unrefurbished might be quite high.

I don't mind Emirates in J but QF on the 330 with the newish J suites is hard to beat, save $200 for Duty Free

I haven't had the chance to try a bar on the 380 but it would probably provide an excuse to stand up and move around a bit. I've seen the happy faces around the bar in the ads!;)

Unless system disruptions elsewhere mean you end up with a non-refurb. Small chance, but as the whole fleet hasn't been reconfigured, it's still a possibility. For full flat guaranteed, CX.
