Hi - i'm a QC member and was flying Mel - Dxb last week (on Emirates metal but booked through Qantas). The QC was closed in Melbourne due to the hour (6.30pm) so i made my way to the Emirates lounge as the Qantas website states that in the event of their lounge being closed i could use the airline partnership lounge. I was refused entry into the Emirates lounge and told that Qantas were wrong to say otherwise.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or have i misunderstood something ?

Thanks in advance.

It does? I had a look and found this:
Qantas Club members will continue to have access to Qantas operated International Business Lounges* and will be welcomed at the Emirates Business lounge in Dubai when their next onward flight that day is with Qantas or Emirates. *During lounge operating hours.

It seems it's only in DXB that you can use an EK lounge.

The only Emirates lounge QC members (without status) can use is in Dubai afaik.

I have quoted below what I was referring too - [h=1]Qantas Club member accessing other lounges[/h]

I'm unable to post the link but this was taken from the FAO page - Qantas Club member accessing other lounges

Was it a QF or EK flight number ?

Question

If a Qantas Club lounge is not available at the port I am travelling to/from can I access other lounges? Answer

Yes. In addition to accessing Qantas club lounges, as a Qantas Club member you will be able to access the additional lounges :
  • Partner Airline lounges
  • Associated lounges
For further information on the different types of lounges view the Qantas Clubpage

The only partner lounge in the EK network for QP access is in DXB, so they were correct to deny entry.

So an EK flight number (marketed) and/or EK operated ? Who booked through is irelevant

63. Will Qantas Club members have access to all Emirates lounges?
No. For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Club members will be welcomed at the Emirates Business lounge in Dubai when their next onward flight that day is with Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK). Qantas Club members will have access to Qantas International Business Lounges in Australia and to the American Airlines Admirals Lounge at London Heathrow T3 when their next onward flight is with Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) to Dubai or Australia. The current lounge benefits for Qantas Club members will remain unchanged when travelling on a Qantas marketed flight. A valid Qantas Club card in the name of the member travelling must be presented to the lounge staff to access the lounge.
So no entry to EK lounge in Melbourne

So no entry to EK lounge in Melbourne

Thanks Mwenenzi for taking the time to clarify that for me.

I have heard that QF is currently trying to hammer out a deal with EK that allows access to the EK Lounge in AUS ports for QC members when the QC is closed. Apparently, they are also looking to do a deal with AA in CDG, CX in FCO and JAL in FRA to give QC lounge access when flying on QF flight number to DXB. Emirates refuses to let them in because they feel paid access to their lounges degrades them

Always dangerous not to have a qf flight number. The first class lounge in Sydney is notorious for not letting platinums in who are travelling to Fiji in either business or economy class if there is no qf flight number shown. On one occasion I've had to pull out the eticket and show them qf flight numbers and 081 ticket numbers.

I was told by the Emirates staff that the QC in Melbourne was going to extend its evening hours for a trial period in order to cater for members that are departing on the evening Dxb flights. This should be in place now.

Given that the QK flight carries a QF codesahre flight number, that does seem to be a sensible solution.

That would be 'nice' .. since QP members have been royally screwed in relation to European lounge access by the end of the JSA with BA and the takeover by EK.
