Qatar Airways in last week’s schedule update filed changes to its planned Airbus A380 operation.

For Australia, this means A350s will take the routes.

Doha – Melbourne A350-1000XWB replaces A380
Doha – Perth A350-1000XWB replaces A380 (-900XWB in September 2020)
Doha – Sydney QR908/909 A350-1000XWB replaces A380

Assuming this means they keep five A380s, I wonder where they would fly them?

Previously they were used to LHR, CDG, FRA, BKK, CAN, SYD, MEL and PER. I would imagine they keep LHR, CDG, SYD and (possibly) MEL as these were the routes which seemed to have sufficient demand for first class.

They're quoting emissions as the being the reason for halving the number. Seems a bit ironic from a company (ie country) that makes its money from natural gas.

Yes, but unlike Australia, they actually take a very decent royalty on the gas! So I guess they can afford a few mothballed 380s!
