Qatar changed my QSuites at the last minute

Just wanted to rant about some truly unprofessional behaviour from QR Agent.

So I am booked to fly in J QSuites from PER-DOH to Europe. Booked seat 3A a year ago.

Out of the blue today I get a call from Qatar agent from his personal mobile. Claims my QF connecting flight will be late blah blah blah, missing luggage blah blah blah etc

Offers to be put me on the "double decker" out of Sydney.

Not knowing that I am expert flyer, I said, why would I do that when the A380 does not have QSuites.

I said I picked to fly through DOH because of the Q Suites. I said please leave my booking alone.

Anyway, he goes in and changes my booking from 3A to 11J (last row, next to economy with bassinets etc).

I will and truly ticked off. I have never experienced anything as unprofessional as this from QR before.

I tried complaining but no seats available as the flight is fully booked.

Has this happened to anyone here and what did you do to fix it?

In a huff I cancelled my flights when the Q suites were removed from the flights I was booked on out of Bangkok to Frankfurt.
Rebooked on Oman Air, not q suites but a good layout, will fly with them again.

This happens frequently these days. They don’t fly 350 ( I think it is) anymore as there are safety issues. Only the 777. Happened to family a couple of weeks ago and the only found out as they were about to board in Doha. There’s nothing you can do. Planes get subbed frequently. Sometimes at very late notice and others in advance.

If I understood the OP, the plane has QSuites but they’ve been moved to an inferior QSuite to that originally selected. No doubt a status Pax or special family member is onboard.

Ok - Sorry I misread that. I’m not sure any Q suite is inferior though. Isn’t that part of the smaller cabin that some prefer? I can’t remember. Again seat switches happen too. The story given as the excuse was rather weird I agree.

Yea I could see kicking off over being moved from Qsuite to nonQ but seems more of an irritation than something to blow up about.

Yes, that’s what it sounds like (if we are understanding the situation correctly). Being called from a mobile with a pro active offer to change flights sounds very odd - sounds like a personal favour being extended to someone, requiring the OP to be moved.

@JU581 i think your only avenue is to make an official complaint. If you got the name and number of the call, that might give you some traction , but if you were still in QS on the same flight, I wouldn’t be making too much effort. As pushka said - more common to be involuntary bumped to a flight without QS ( I’ve had that).

That's the end result but the initial issue was that the QR agent tried to move the OP to an inferior product out of a different city.

Seems as though the agent changed his seat out of pettiness or some other reason equally unimportant to the OP.

I’d actually suggest OP was moved to plonk someone else up front on an otherwise full flight. Either-way, all a bit odd but we live in interesting times.

Yes, and there's always someone the airlines deem more important.

But it's one thing to move you out of your prized seat to accommodate whomever, but attempting to move the OP to a flight without Qsuites starting on the other side of the country? That's cold. Should have given the OP the seat change straight up, irritating as it may be, rather than go through the charade that they're helping him.

Having flown QR quite a lot pre-covid, I can certainly relate to this story, including personal favours, etc.

However, if it were me, I would probably have accepted the offer to fly direct ex SYD on the 380, which isn't a bad product in J. Saves faffing around at PER, and makes for a shorter journey, but, of course, there could have been other reasons to transit PER (apart from the Q-suites).

I agree. The onboard bar is lovely on the A380 and the J seat is actually pretty decent.

We had the 380 on our Doha-UK return leg and the Q suites Adelaide - Doha return leg. Both very nice.
I haven't tried QSuites yet (I have an AKL-ADL redemption in Feb which should hopefully be QSuites) but I can second that the reverse-herringbone product on Qatar's A380s is excellent. It's the most comfortable I can remember ever being on a plane. (Unfortunately it was only daytime LHR-DOH, followed by the coughpy old 777 business seats back to MEL in 2015.) A very similar seat is on American's flagship 77Ws, and that was overnight, and I slept great for several hours.
